Linked to toniq's advent thread :)

[STRIKE]* I can't see a title to the prize, so suggest Day 1, unless they state one (obviously Day 2 will be Day 2 and so on ;))[/STRIKE] I think it could be "Faber's New Comedy Titles" after reading more carefully :)
Never put tables and chairs in the same room.
If they congregate together for any length of time, they will inevitably hatch plots against you and your pets.

ETA: Sorry Sylvia Plath may be the wrong answer. It is Sylvia v Philip, I can't seem to find original publishings only reprints :( Be back with the right answer hopefully It is definitely Philip Larkin (sorry)

The Whitsun Weddings by Philip Larkin (first published in 1964)
    Dart by Alice Oswald
Nil Nil by Don Paterson, and
Ariel by Sylvia Plath. (first published in 1968)

To enter, simply answer the question:

  • Not a bundle today, but one of three signed copies.

Because it's a Friday and we're feeling especially generous, we're giving away three signed copies of Stewart Lee's must have title for comedy fans, How I Escaped My Certain Fate. For those not in the know, it's a blow-by-blow account of his comedy comeback, featuring annotated transcripts of the three full-length shows that sealed his reputation, and details of his professional trials during the period. Find out more here. To enter, simply answer the question:

In which superhero comic has Stewart Lee made a cameo appearance? The Incredible Hulk (source Chortle: "Three years ago, Lee made a cameo appearance in the Incredible Hulk comic, when his poster featured in the background of a fight scene – possibly as a nod to his routine about interviewing Hulk director Ang Lee.")

Email your answer to books@faber.co.uk with the subject line 'Advent Calendar', your name, address and the title of that day's prize. Title should be How I Escaped My Certain Fate

Winners will be picked at random from entries received by midnight (GMT) on the day of each giveaway, and contacted within two days.

  • Day 4: Not a bundle of books but a poster. Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath poster.
It's Saturday! Hurrah for the weekend and for today's giveaway – one lucky winner will receive a beautiful Bell Jar poster. To enter, simply answer the question:

What year was the Bell Jar first published in the UK? I presume the answer is 1963, but Wiki says:
The Bell Jar is American writer and poet Sylvia Plath's only novel, which was originally published under the pseudonym "Victoria Lucas" in 1963. The novel is semi-autobiographical with the names of places and people changed. The book is often regarded as a roman à clef, with the protagonist's descent into mental illness paralleling Plath's own experiences with what may have been either bipolar disorder or clinical depression. Plath committed suicide a month after its first UK publication. The novel was published under Plath's name for the first time in 1967 ~ so 1963 under a pseudonym but 1967 under her real name. Question doesn't mention names, just which year it was first published, so I would be tempted to go for 1963

Email your answer to books@faber.co.uk with the subject line 'Advent Calendar', your name, address and the title of that day's prize. (Title of today's prize: Bell Jar Poster)

  • Hello I think you'll find the title of the book is The Red Coffin. The Stalin Era Detective Novel bit is referring to the theme of the books.

The answer to the question is the Eye of the Red Tsar

The red coffin is the title of the book giveaway, but I have been copying their title of today's prize from the text of the giveaway. They don't mention The Red Coffin in the text (apart from a piccy of it) but they do mention The Stalin Era Dective Novel bit in the text. If any1 thinks I have got this a over t, please do say :)
