1yr old ebay item advise

Hi,

I bought a Freeview digital box nearly a year ago on ebay. I been trying to upgrade the version on ths box but with no luck I contacted the helpline number. I found out it was Tescos help number and was told this item was recalled back because they all had software fault which I had no idea about!

Is there anything I can do or can Tesco exchange this for me? I still have the original box but no proof of purchase.

Thanks

I've got no idea what the legalities of a situation such as this are but I'm not sure you will have much comeback with this, given the length of time involved and the fact you bought it from eBay tbh.

However, I would certainly still try. :) Phone Tesco Head Offfice first to see if they will help and if not, get in touch with the manufacturer - if they have done a recall they will be well aware of the fault and may help.

I'm not suggesting you lie, but it may be an idea to omit the eBay bit and just explain you no longer have the receipt?

tesco are generally pretty good and if you are looking for a replacement rather than a refund then they will probably help you out (esp as you have the original packaging which they will be able to scan and find the original sale price)

if it was recalled then they should have details, I would take it back to Tesco and say seeing as it's nearly a year old can't find the receipt(which is true), they should be able to confirm with the helpline that the product was recalled. Given how small adverts recalls usually are it's probably no surprise people miss them most of the time, they may well offer you some form of replacement, probably worth a try at least

i worked for a electrical company who had to recall a iron that they had stopped manufacturing yrs before.. one had exploded and so they had to put adverts in the papers and refund anyone who sent them in to them.. if its a recall it doesnt matter if you have the receipt its down to the company to recompense you as its there fault something has gone wrong for it to be recalled .. and doesnt even matter if you have the receipt as long as you can tell its the product that is being recalled

  • Thanks I will contact Tesco as I just want a replacement and see what they say. I dont think I will mention where I got it just it was bought for me by someone else. Hopefully they can help me. Thank you!
  • Just letting you know I just called up Tesco and they said just bring it into the store even though it was a year ago and they will sort it out which is helpful.

But hopefully I am right about it being bought from Tesco not sure but the instruction book has Tesco helpline numbers no it so Im thinking it was bought from there but will see what happens tomorrow.

    Thanks everyone who replied!!
