We were always taught it should be EITHER 70 degrees for 2 minutes OR 75 degrees.

If you did 65 degrees for 10 minutes, by the end of the 10 minutes it would have cooled considerably to probably less than 60, which would mean you'd never reach the 'safe' bacteria-killing temperature of 70 degrees.

If that makes any sense at all...

I didn't explain myself properly :D I was taught that it must stay above 65 for the whole 10 mins, not just be 65 when you take it out of the oven.

Told you my brain and keyboard don't always work together :D

Thanks for all your replies. I'm a bit worried about this pie now as my two DD's will be eating this with us. I'll try and ring my dad to find out exactly how long he cooked it for...i know he made one for his tea yesterday also that he ate straight away, so i'll ask him how long he cooked that one for to give me a better idea.

As far as temperatures are concerned...i don't have a thermometer to test the temp...but i've learnt something

I haven't got a meat thermometer either but I always use a thin metal knife - stick it in the middle of the food and then test gently against your bottom lip (it's more sensitive than trying with your fingers which can usually take much more heat).

  • I always make a pie last two days... cook it one day eat half... heat up the second half the next night!

My rule is never reheat TWICE, so as long as you heat and eat it all you'll be fine!

My DS always eats with us!!
We spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I don't and I'm happy!
