Advice requested please - Groupon dental implant offer

Hi
I would be grateful for advice please. Groupon has for the past 45 hours, ending in three hours, offered dental implants for £899 @ Holborn Dental Centre in London. I was very interested in the offer and called them this morning to clarify what is included.

They told me that the price is only for the screw and that there will be another £1k for the actual tooth implant. I called Groupon. They siad that they would call me back but they did not do so. I called Groupon again at 5, they told me that they are still in discussions with the dental surgery about what was on offer. They told me that they would call me back within the hour.

They did not do so.

Now on the website, it says:

•Holborn dental implant includes; any medication, sterile pack, the implant, any necessary Radiographs and any Post op reviews

Does this mean that the price includes the actual tooth being inserted in the jaw or is there a £1k charge later. It is completly ambigious and I am very annoyed. I do not know what to do.

I would be grateful for any advice please

I can not post with links but if you go on the Groupon website you will see the deal. Thank you.

  • hello,
It sounds like the offer is just relating to the implant ('screw'). Once an implant is place it needs either a crown or if several implants are placed then a 'fixed' denture fitted to them to replace the missing teeth. This can cost a costly sum as laboratory work isn't cheap and that is probably the £1000 extra amount.
    hope that helps
  • hia... I have confirmed a Groupon in the past & then cancelled it... check what the cancellation policy is & it will give you more time to investigate....
  • Just to say choose where you go very carefully and get a recommendation from someone you know if possible ... my friend's husband suffered agonies after having six done at once in Portugal, the aftercare was appalling after such major works.

cancellation with Groupon is within 7 days of purchase. If you are still waiting for a response, it would make sense to purchase, and then try to get clarity within 7 days, or request a refund if this does not happen/you find the deal is not as described...hth!

  • hi
i have no idea about the actual deal youre talking about (but it does sound a tad misleading) but I bought a deal a couple of weeks ago then changed my mind and when i read up on it it can be cancelled within 7 days as its an on line transaction, which is what i did and they refunded my money no problem.
  • Hi there.....This looks like it is just the implant only. As said above you will have to have crown work/bridge/fixed denture made which can cost anything up to and above £1000. I used to work in the dental field and you really need to do your research if going ahead with a procedure like this. If you would like a recommendation to a very good dentist I know who specialised in Implants I would be happy to give you his details. (Nothing in it for me as I havent spoken to him in ages but I used to nurse for him and he is brill).

Funny enough I have just looked up the Holborn practice as it seemed familiar and I know the owner and one of the other dentists there lol
Never buys anything at full price unless completely forced to do so!!!
  • Many thanks. I may purchase it as people suggest. Thank you.
  • The guy carrying out the implants at the Holborn practice is Steve Sharma.....here is his website. He has been doing implants for over 15 years which is good. Always make sure the implantologist is well experienced. Ask how many procedures have failed as some do. Check cross infection control procedures......dont be afraid to ask. Ask about after care also how long is it guaranteed for. HTH

  • I was quoted £3k for 2 dental implants with a denture so seems to be similar cost.
  • Hi,
The Implantium Network is able to offer implants a lot cheaper than existing competitors, said Jason Buglass. The Implantium network was launched this year and is able to offer dental implants at a fixed fee of £1350 plus a £100 consultation fee- about 37% cheaper than the average industry price.
