Depends on what receiver you got, but you can view lots of movie channels, music, sport without paying any subscription.
You can get most of the channels that are on freeview.

You need to have dish, receiver and all small bits and pices. Someone have to install it for you.

  • I have a Sky satellite dish set up , but my digibox does not work. Can I use this set up?
  • Depend on the card you've got
  • Is there a list of UK channels you can get with these, and do you have to do much more than just but one of these or is it a big project.

Let's put the record straight here.......

These satellite receivers are for enthusiasts only.
They will receive all Free to Air channels including the BBC, and ITV3 on the same satellite that Sky use.
They will never be able to receive ITV1,ITV2, CH4, CH5 or any of the Sky pay channels.

'Den' is talking about hacking the channels of european service providers that show similar channels to Sky in the UK.
You would need to purchase a blank smartcard and programmer, or reprogram the receiver firmware. You would also need a large dish at least 90cm diameter for satisfactory results of many european channels. The dish ideally should be motorised. The codes to watch these extra channels are not always available, and very soon there may be nothing to watch as broadcasters are improving their scrambling systems.

So unless you want to spend lots of money for something that may be useless in a few days or months, you should save your money and move on.

talkshop, you are too right ;)
I was not sure if its right to mention about patching your receiver.
But you are not quite right that soon there will be nothing to watch. There are always new patches available, and I do it myself without asking shops to do it for me.
I have 90cm dish with motor, total cost of my system was £430 only because I needed eastern european channels. Usual price is £200 - £300 for fully installed motorised system.

They might well be able to soon - ITV can't agree on whether to go FTA like the BBC or stay encrypted with Sky. At the moment it looks likely that they may go unencrypted.
