What to wear with a sweater dress?

Hi,

Just bought a lovely coffee brown v-neck sweater dress, and not sure what to wear with it. I'm about 5'6", UK size 14, early 30s, with decent legs!

Dress stops about two inches above the knee. Would thick brown tights and brown leather knee high boots, and maybe a chunky belt, be the only thing that would work?

Thanks!

I'd probably wear leggings and midcalf boots with it. But then I do feel the cold!
  • I have been looking at sweater dresses think they look great:)

You could also wear with leggings or tight denims

I think the leggings and boots idea sounds good. I'd probably try to mix it up a bit with the colours though instead of all brown.

Need to be knee high boots though as mid calf will cut your legs at the widest part and make them look bigger than they are.

With brown you could add colours like greens (not bluey shades though), cream, beige, some shades of yellow, orange, white etc. Even some shades of red might work. Use the colour as an accent, but keep the brown boots - so have colour on the tights and also in a scarf, jewellery, belt buckle etc if you can find the same shade in an accesory. You could probably also co-ordinate a coat or wrap.

I've got one on today (pics up on my blog which can be accessed via the homepage link in my username). Dead easy accessories - green tights and knee high brown cowboy boots.

I've worn similar dresses with all kinds of coloured tights underneath and a range of shoes - boots, brogues (heeled and flat) and normal heels depending on how I feel on the day.

I wouldn't necessarily go for an all brown outfit as the effect may be a bit too brown. Try some different coloured tights or accessories. Brown looks good with all sorts of shades so you've got lots of choice available.

I ave a brown woolen dress I always get complimented on with stripes of blues, and greeny blues!

I think it depends on the way its all put together.

I love brown and camel or caramel colours together, brown and rich creams, different browns for understated colour combinations. Then all the autumnal colours, golds, russets, oranges, rich yellows...

I’ve been looking at these types of things this week – am going to give one a try as never worn anything like this before.

I am planning on wearing mine with leggings and some cosy winter boot.s

    I've got this one.

Always have a slight worry with some sweater dresses as they can cling to lumps and bumps round the middle. This one is cleverly cut for me.....it goes in and out in all the right places!! I wore it smart /casual to go out at the weekend with dressy opaque tights and shoe boots and some chunky jewellery.

With a v neck sweater dress, you could layer a fine top underneath and a long chunky-knit cardi or sleeveless cardi belted over the top too.

Sweater dresses look great with a big scarf and soft hat as well if you like hats!

That's a lovely dress if a bit pricey.
