    Chester; all gone (3pm ish).

Apparently every store was sent 500 for the promotion.
Austin Reed have 40 Stand-alone stores in the UK, so that's a total of 20,000 scarves nation wide.

The Telegraph has an average daily readship of ~665,000.

Assuming the Saturday Telegraph does not have a higher than average readership than for weekdays, and assuming the promotion itself did not increase readship - that's still only enough scarves for 3% of their readship to get one.

So for every 1 person that gets a scarf (paying £1.80) there will be 32 people that do not get a scarf (paying £57.60). Quite a little money spinner they've got there.

Given the way the promotion was advertised on the cover of the paper, i'd be surprised if there were not a great many (valid) complaints as to the way the promotion was advertised, and carried out.

If they'd made their customers aware of how limited the supply was, I'd be less upset - but this is a con, plain & simple. (and precisely what the OFT recently highlighted as unfair business practices, and wishes to clamp down upon)

Popped into the Austin Reed on Regent St and they had all gone by about 4pm. The store guy said they had the largest delivery in the country too...

I got mine at Canary Wharf this morning, about 10.30 am, They were putting out bundles to deal with the queue. They put mine in a nice posh paper carrier bag. So yes it's going into the Hamper that I'm putting together for my gentleman friend.

Staff were superb and dealing with people without complaint. Well done AR for staff training.
  • I work for Waitrose and we sold out sooooo quick today, opened at 8.30 and the chocs had all gone within a couple of hours, we should of stocked up really but nobody seemed to be aware of the deal until it was too late
  • Does anyone know if there will be more deliveries of the AR scarf in stores tomorrow or next week? Or was today the only day to redeem, whilst stocks last?

I think it was while stocks last. I phoned my nearest store to be told there were about 40 left, but by the time I got there, they'd all gone so a wasted journey. :(
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.
  • i've just rung Cardiff store and they have all gone. I am going to Bath tomorrow, but have decided not to buy the paper and put £1.80 in my pot instead.

All scarves had gone in Bath by mid-morning. From what I heard I find it very hard to believe they had 400 to give away. Waitrose Bath had the chocolates (all varieties) in stock at lunchtime.

I went into the Cardiff store at around 1pm and they said that all of their 600 scarves went by 11am. Now I'm going to be cold all winter. =(

Do not regret as the scarf is similar to what you would find in Poundland - 100% Acrylic.
