I normally drive the 30 miles to work but when it snows I walk 3 miles to the train station which is down the bottom of the mountain I live at the top of. However I am 5 months pregnant now so will not be doing that this year and my boss agrees with me. So far the snow hasn't been so bad that I haven't been able to get my car out.

A friend is a manager in a call centre and has been tasked today with proving to chancers they could have got in if they wanted; likewise they have been sending staff to other offices and so on - funny how they make any excuse to not go there too! I am afraid as the week goes on the more likely discliplinaries are as staff have now had time to sort things out.

Funnily enough, my sister is a manager in a call centre and when the area was hit with flooding, and there were staff shortages as a result, she already knew that those who worked part time and receive tax credits would refuse to work any extra shifts because of the impact on their benefits (because they always do).

But after a few days she got suspicious because she believed the flooded roads had eased so she rang round and offered to come and collect them in her 4x4. Then magically, many more staff were able to battle the elements and come in without any assistance.

We had 4 inches here. One colleague, who lives about 5 miles away phoned in to say she can't go in due to the snow. She will get a serious b0ll0cking when she returns to work as there are colleagues that live 200 yards away and turned up to work with no problems. The colleague who phoned in sick and the colleagues that live nearby don't have the same shifts. If they did, they would have taken her into work.
