Is Unison's Medicash Cash Plan any good?

Hi all, I am interested in getting either PMI or a health Cash Plan and have read Martins articles on the subjects. I think a Cash Plan is probably more affordable. Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of the Unison Medicash plan? I wonder how it compares with other mainstream plans - is it really any better value or are there better deals around? More info is available at http://www.medicash.org/unison/abouttheplan.asp?campaign=5 any ideas would be welcome! Thanks in advance :D

  • Don't know about it through Unison but have been in Medicash since i left school. My mum and dad were both in it through their work and as I wear specs mum said it was a good idea. I have now been in it over 20 years and can not say how highly I recommend the service they give. We've got the joint silver service which covers both me and hubby for almost everything. The best thing now is we get 100% of our dentist bills paid and get up to £120 per year for eye tests and specs each. These alone make it worth my while. And recently I broke my elbow - they have a personal injury section and I got £250 just for filling in the form. we pay £38 per month for all of this and it covers things like if the kids are in hospital over night and we have to stay with them .... have actually had to use this. They are always helpful and friendly if you phone them and the money is paid directly into the account within 2 days of sending off the form. If its being recommended by Unison you can bet it's been fully vetted and checked.

I don't know about Unison either but would suggest that you check both the policy and costs through Unison and also by contacting Medicash directly. I did this some time ago as I was already a member directly with Medicash. If I went through Unison it would have meant no claims for 1st 6 months as I would have been treated as new customer so decided to stay as I was. I do however remember that there were some differences but can't remember what they were.

I have been in Medicash since I left school as well. Well worth the money. We also have joint silver as as we both wear glasses, and go for regular check ups, think it is worth every penny. I also visit an osteopath and get half my costs back on this.

My dad has also been a member for longer than I care to remember but when he had complications after an operation last year and was in hospital for nearly 9 weeks, he got a lump sum when he came home (they pay so much per overnight stay in hospital) and he also could have gone for convalescence as well. He also has a private chiropodist which he gets something back think it is 50%).

Good value for money as far as we are concerned.
