  • Thank you very sweet people.

Sorry to laugh but it is shocking when birthdays creep up on you.

And Catsmarvellouscats (!) my girl eats whiskers, yep better than we do.

    Byeee.
Debt Sept 2012 £140,000 end age 65.5 (maximum) four mortgages in total
    April 2016 £114,599.83 (3 mortgages now)
Nil debt for some many years now perhaps 8. Need to save for a tent for holiday this year but nil else.
Over paying about £500 per month but fancy £600 so will have to think of some very money saving techniques...
  • Oddly I am going to record things I'd like to buy and then keep a record of them because I think it will be interesting for me in the future. I am not very good at parting with money so it will be interesting for me to see if I ever purchase things I perceive as necessary. I would like to see that I eventually do save up and buy nice things for my house. I suspect I don't.

A freezer (wanted a new one for about 18 months was hoping old one 20 years ++++ would die in house move sadly it did not)

A new purple sofa (have wanted one since 1999) now want it as a sofa bed in case I am sick of husband and need to escape to lounge.

Light shades (since house move June 2009)

Curtains (since June 2009 but last house waited 11 years and without luck)

That is all. I shall keep me posted on any purchases or wants or needs....

PP2 You do make me laugh - especially the reason for the sofa bed. :o
We lack a spare bedroom and a sofa bed would be handy!;)
I too find it hard to part with money and even though I really want new things, I deny myself them at the last moment and manage to convince myself i can do without.
We have money put away for a door to be put through to our integral garage and although I really want it done, as I keep having to go out in the rain to the tumble drier, I am secretly pleased that the money is still in the bank!:)
  • Hi PP - I'm really sorry to hear about your troubles with your earlier mortgage/endowment. I'm not native to England but I have an English friend who told me about the problems with endowments and how she vowed to never touch one with a barge pole. I also learned about the 15% interest rates  Really scary stuff. I don't think I'd be able to hang on to my property...

Anyway, like you I just want to get rid of my mortgage as fast as I can and not be subject to the whims of the financial markets!

  • Hello Stedwell,

I think it is a good thing you go out in the rain, it is an incentive to not use the tumble!! So that is how I would see it, minimal tumbling and less electric. But I can't say it out loud cos they all think I am mad or mean or both (umm who knows). I like the smell of washing line dry but after 11 years of having an airer at the end of our bed in our last house I am pleased to see the back of that - lack of romantic ambiance pants drying at foot of bed!

Hello, SSTS - my new intercontinental friend. Please explain to me what you eat for £150 per month and how many of you there are cos I find it hard to shop on £100 per week (see I said it). I deliberately have not posted at SOA cos I know there are holes as big as Wales and money is dripping out. Yep please, if you could give me a weekly food diary, shopping list and visit me once a week for actual cooking instructions and demonstrations in my kitchen I'd be grateful. Please don't tell me there are 4 of you and two dogs cos I will cry.

I couldn't hold on to our property with interest rates at 15% either and am very tempted to fix as soon as able (June) for 5 years. Lovely meet you dear heart.

    Bye ladies PP

    Hi PP2
I only use the tumble drier in the winter when the radiators are already full of wet washing. Also I don't iron what I tumble dry so do I earn points for not using an iron?!!!:) I love the summer when everything dries freshly on the line.
With regards to the shopping I also find it hard to bring a family of 4 shop in at 100 a week. Hubbie was so proud he only spent £60 on Saturday and now we have run out of loo roll, cheese, bread, fresh veg............... How do people do it so cheaply? I wouldn't mind but I am a veggie so don't spend money on meat and we are still drinking the Christmas wine! :D

I have an airer up at all times, but hurrah, got washing dried on line at the weekend.

Heating going off end of April come what may...

I don't use the iron only for school and work uniform (and the cat and husband if ill behaved, nil else).

Stedwell you can have brownie points for writing a shopping list and trying to keep to a budget in my books, so definately for nil use of iron. You can have brownie points in my house for looking in the freezer before going shopping rather than duplicating.

Too much, in my opinion, charging all electrical devices at work, way too much...(but I do charge my work phone sometimes at work as it bugs me to pay for the charge!!!)

As is strip washes (old lady stylee) in work loos to save putting hot water on, way too much. And also befriending all birthday sufferers to ensure cakes are eaten for lunch every day without incurring cost for own lunch - think short term money save, long term dental work - way more expensive.

Trying to be frugal but every thing costs so much and just had three big old birthdays. Booking and paying for a holiday then shall get going with this years challenge.
    Hope all are well.

  • Very bad set back since doing a thread as my husband has had an illness and this has not only been very difficult but illness affects ones income and there are costs in not working and being in hosp etc. He is back at work now but all you nurses will understand this, as he had a supported return (not worked fully since November) the last two months he has worked but lost £700 because of his out of hours payments. I haven't said too much about it cos I am glad he is back to work but this month I am going to use savings to get straight...(by this I mean pay normal stuff needing paying rather than next month being so loaded up with debt).

Mays pay packet I hope will have out of hours payments in them, we will be straight financially, I hope to commence 2011 overpaying and boy have I got lost ground to make up, on a positive note in June my second mortgage goes to base rate - need to think about fixing but might try to enjoy a couple of months at 2.5% - I am thinking rate rises by December and need to fix around September any opinions?

Today I plan to sort out finances, budget for month properly I might even watch a bit of royal wedding malarky.

Bye for now and good health Miss Penny Henny
