redeeming a mortgage

Having cleared my mortgage, I require a 'deed of discharge'. Surely I need this, not just "Land registry will remove charge".
Anyone been in this situation ?

emails to N/wide, below

I have the paper deeds for the property, sent by the Portman solicitors in 2004, HOWEVER, what I require is a ? Deed of Discharge, to confirm that this is no longer any charge on the property. If I had an endowment policy assigned to you and haD CLEARED THE MORTGAGE, YOU WOULD HAVE NO INTEREST IN THE POLICY AND A DISCHARGE WOULD BE ISSUED SO THAT i COULD DEAL WITH THIS POLICY IN MY OWN RIGHT, WITHOUT REFERENCE TO YOURSELVES.. tHIS IS WHAT i WANT TO BE ABLE TO DO WITH THE PROPERTY.
pLEASE FORWARD A dEED OF dISCHARGE AND A REDEMPTION STATEMENT.

Dear Mr Thank you for your message.

I confirm that there are no paper Deeds for your property and that in this case they are on electronic file only.
A closing statement has been requested for you from The Mortgage Redemption Team.

Dear
Thank you for your message.

I am pleased to confirm your mortgage account is now closed. Also i confirm a refund of £13.76 has been refunded back into your bank account this will take three to five working days to show. As your mortgage was taken out in 16th January 2004 all paper documentation relating to your property is held electronically with the Land Registry. We will be contacting them to release the charge on the property.

Thank you for your valued custom over the lifetime of your mortgage.

Nationwide will send an electronic confirmation of discharge to the Land Registry who will update the register and write to let you know (unless you had a solicitor redeem the account). You don't need to do anything.
