Squeaky shoes!!!!

I bought a pear of boots (ok, I am not sure you would call them that way - they finish about 4-5 inches above the ankle) two weeks ago. They are lovely and warm.
However, they have now started to squeak!!! OS, every time I walk all you hear is 'squeak, squeak, squeak'. It is annoying to say the least. They were not cheap shoes, I paid £95, and they are made by Ecco - I had shoes from them before and I love them.
Is there anything I can do to stop this squeak? I don't want to be 'announced' everywhere I walk!

Did you pay for them
. There is an old proverb that shoes will squeak until paid for!:rotfl:
More helpfully, I'd be taking them back.0 -
Yes, I did pay for them. I was thinking of taking them back - what are my chances of not being laughed out of the shop? Also, that involves travelling to Trafford Centre. Might dare to do this one day after work next week.Spring into Spring 2015 - 0.7/12lb0

Do they squeak all the time as I have a pair of boots that do that when its been raining and I go into asda or tesco and its so embarressing lol. I usually try to dry the soles of the boots on the mat at the front entrance of the shop.0

I'd try to work out why they squeek.
I had a pair of trainers that used to squeek, back in the '90s when Nike Air were all the rage everyones trainers would squeek! This was due to the air bubble in the heel becoming burst and air 'squeeking' out of the tiny hole that a stone or big jump had created, once the hole was there, there was nothing anyone could do.
Another problem could be the leather, very new and firm leather may take a while to soften and so stop squeeking. You can help this along with certain leather products such as waxes, sprays and other oils but its best to ask a shoe mender (cobbler) who will know best what to use.
And then the only other thing I can think would be if the boots are heeled and wooden at the soles. If the heel is at an angle and its ever so slightly out, you could get a creeking every time you tread. Its unlikely to happen unless the boot has a heel as generally people don't walk at an angle which puts any difference of pressure between the heel and the sole, its the tension and looseness of the heel that causes the squeek.
But all of those are my hazzarding a guess, there are many other possible causes. TBH if its not an obvious one I'd go back to the store and complain. Ask about petrol money and parking being refunded (you'd need a reciept) if its proven the boots are faulty.0 -
I like the idea of speaking to a shoe mender close to you first to try and work out WHY they squeak.
Then I would call the shop's head office before you make a long journey - they may suggest you return them to a nearer shop or may possibly offer to take them back by post.
Good luck!Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!0 -
Thanks all - I think it is the insoles. I removed them yesterday and put them back in, and the bottom of the insole is plastic, so I guess that rubs on the shoe and squeaks. Now, the left shoe is not squeaking, but the right one still is! The squeak is there all the time, it is not weather dependant. I don't know any shoe menders, and have never used them here (I only used them once in UK and had a terrible experience, when they used wrong colour thread to mend them!).Spring into Spring 2015 - 0.7/12lb0

just a thought but if one side has stopped squeaking, have another fiddle with insole on squeaky side. maybe smear fine layer of vaseline around edge?Signature removed for peace of mind0
