Popped into Asda last night with a friend, and by the door they had a stack of real Norwegian Christmas trees, all about 5ft or there-abouts, really good quality, full and smelling lovely, in their own pot, and only £15.
My friend had rung our local nursery earlier in the day and their 5ft trees were about £30. So we grabbed one for her, then I sent dh out for one (my first real tree ever!) when I got back lol! :rotfl:
They seemed to be going quick, the taller ones anyway, so don't hang wait too long.

Nice spot- but the problem is it's far too early. By christmas most of it will be on the floor- and by 12th night....eek! Make sure you keep it watered really well, and away from any rads to get the most you can out of it.DTD...Dreading The Detox.0

Nothing beats a real Xmas tree but after last year - no more! I was still sweeping up pine needles from the carpet in February. I also saw a documentary on TV - have you ever seen one of this when they set on fire?! Really dangerous. :j0

Christmas trees are all harvested in October and November, so regardless of whether you buy it now or in 2 weeks, it will have been dead for the same period of time. Best to buy now when the selection is good and as pointed out, keep it outside in a bucket of water until you want to put it up.0 -
It's in the shed and well watered as we won't be decorating it until the weekend. It looks very healthy at the moment (but then I'm not very green fingered so who knows how long it will last lol!)
We usually have our fake tree in the window, but there is a radiator there so I'll probably re-think location this year. Thanks for the tip.Property buying/selling timeline - currently into week 21

b and q have them for 12.99. I got ours last friday and its fine, it will def last to xmas. just keep it watered. mine had hardly lost any needles0

We've had a real tree from Asda for the last 2 years and provided they are regularly watered they barely drop any needles. We were surprised at how good they were for the money. This is definitely a grabbit as the bigger sizes always go fast and stores don't stock many, they'll probably be gone by the weekend.0

Thank you ajdj, that's good to know
My friend hadn't brought her debit card and said she'd come back for one at the weekend, but I didn't think there would be any left by then so I made her let me get it for her.Property buying/selling timeline - currently into week 21

S'ok, that's what usually does it- bringing them in to a warm, dry air environment. We always had real trees, up until about two years ago when we bought a huge (stunning- it looks better than the real ones ever did!) tree. Unfortunately, our small ish living room didn't have anywhere we could put a tree to be unaffected by the heat from the coal fire.
Last year, we picked up a lovely nordman fir (free!) as the shop was closing on xmas eve. We put it in a bucket of soil, and put it outside the french doors as a "backdrop" xmas dinner. That tree was still lush, green, and not losing ANY needles in July!
I miss the smell of a real tree though- so I make fresh foilage "boughs" to decorate the living room withDTD...Dreading The Detox.0 -

How do you make those? What do you use? Thanks.0 -
Roughly (I make it up as I go along!) two large evergreen branches, stems pointed inwards- <<<-->>> kinda like that lol. Stems are joined in the middle with heavy twine. Then I build it up using holly, and other foraged stuff. Careful of your hands though- holly hurts! Sometimes I'll put a "pick"- the sort of pinecone/flower things you can get in Wilkos etc in the middle if there's a visible join. I usually weave my very tiny coloured rice lights through it. Then it's a matter of a picture hook & wire or something to hang it from the picture rail- and if it's a big one some support to stop the ends sagging.
If I make one this year (first grandchild is due on Dec 27th- I may be busy!) I'll take a picture! They always attract compliments, and they're a nice change from gaudy tinfoil stuff.
