Is this meatbox good value?

Hi there, I am trying to budget and found this meatbox. It could feed me and the kids prob for a month (we dont eat meat everyday). Just wondered if its good value compared to supermarkets and butchers. Its organic meat too.
The box costs 35.95 and includes:
beef brisket 1.5kg
minced pork 450g
lamb shoulder chops, bone in 500g
minced beef 450g
pork belly joint 700g
chicken wings & drumsticks 1kg
stock pack beef or chicken 1kg

Thanks

  • What's a stock pack? Just bones for making stock?

Personally, I think it's a bit pricey but then I don't buy organic meat so I'm not comparing like for like. It's all quite cheap cuts of meat, nothing wrong with any of them, I like the cheaper cuts but I think you could get cheaper elsewhere but you'd have to factor in your shopping cost as well.

I know they are only cheap cuts, all the other boxes are 50 pounds plus. Just thought it would be convenient to have it delivered to your door and for organic it looked cheap.

  • Can you price it against Tesco or Sainsbury's online for your area to get a feel for the prices?

If you imput "organic pork" etc into mysupermarket.com
    http://www.mysupermarket.co.uk/Shopping/FindProducts.aspx?Query=organic%20pork%20mince&SortBy=3
then you'll get some prices to make comparisons with

Thats a good idea although I'm a bit wary buying meat in supermarket, I prefer our butchers but he can be more expensive. I think i just have to pluck up the courage and ask if he has cheaper cuts of meat round the back.

    hi

i sell organic lamb (but have nothing to do with your box company)

i think the price is ok for organic meat - its what i would call "a slow cooked meats box"

If you are sure you want organic rather than supermarket meat - then i think it is a good deal.... I would never recommend buying organic from a supermarket - except if it is reduced ..

to make it better value i would ask if it is possible to get beef stock bones rather than chicken - on the assumption that you rarely buy organic bone in beef and so making organic beef stock is a treat - wheras organic chicken bones (whilst still expensive) is maybe less harder to come by...

let us know what you cook with it - sounds great to have in the freezer over the snowy weeks to come:T

TBH I'd fancy my chances of going into my local butcher and coming out with that for less and I could point to the exact pieces I wanted.

There is no substitute for getting to know your local butcher. You don't have to make it sound like you are looking for cheap cuts, just ask for the cuts you want. They will have them even if they only have the more expensive on display. My local butcher only has a very small shop so he, obviously, puts his more expensive lines in the shop.
