I hate these scam emails with a passion  a waste of your precious time to even read them!

I always have a rough idea of how much l need to pay, and you have to sign for cashback aswell - l can see flaws all over that email, whoever thinks these up must have a dull life.

    Happy moneysaving all.
  • Regardless of the authenticity of the email, it does highlight a flaw in till security that needs rectifying.

Cashback should either require seperate authentication, or the cashback request & amount should come direct from the customer - i.e. the customer keys in the cashback amount themselves immediately before entering their PIN.
The latter is obviously preferable, as I can't imagine either shops or customers would be too fond of having to enter their PIN twice.
  • The biggest flaw in that email is the part about the cashier saying the card terminal was playing up.

I worked for Sainsburys for 8 years (ending last year), and in all that time, cashback has always had to be manually input by the cashier, it was the same when I worked for Somerfield, and O would imagine it would be the same at all outlets offering cash back (another glaring error with the email, you can't get cashback just anywhere)

It would be entirely possible for a cashier to pull a scam like this, but I'd imagine they'd be caught very quickly as most supermarkets mark each receipt with the operator number of the person using it-its unique to each person for easy identification.
Please excuse my bad spelling and missing letters-I post here using either my iPhone or rathr rubbishy netbook, neither of whch have excellent keyboards! Sorry!

Interesting reading some of the replies on here, some people do get rather 'passionate' about things.

I too have googled now that I had time so glad that people were aware it was false.

HOWEVER, I have come across many people being fleeced over the years so please be careful out there at this time of year, there's always someone who will take advantage.

Be mindful with ther cash points at this time of year, with so many people taking cash out its an ideal opportunity for some to try and get our details....I know I was one of their victims 2 years ago at Xmas
