hi everyone,
I was just wondering if any of you know or have heard that you can pay in the ulster hospital to find out the sex of your baby!?
Now this is our 4th and ive never heard of this with my other 3 although i was private with last so i found out as part of the package lol but a friend told be you could now pay just to find out...can anyone give me any info?
We found out with our last daughter that she was a girl at about 4mths and i bonded very strongly with her from that second and i would love to have the same experience again (and also if its a boy i will need time to get my head around it as our 3 are all girls!)
thanks for any info

I assumed that whenever you attend your ultrasound scans with your obstetrican, the obstetrician would tell you right away if you wanted to know? I've never heard of district hospitals charging people to know . . .0

Any time I've had a scan at the Ulster I've been warned in advance that we would not be told the sex. Unless the little one is lying with its legs akimbo and the sonographer is in a generous mood and hovers close to the appropriate area then I don't think you'll get to find out. The other option is to get a 3D/4D scan privately.0

I agree a hospital should not make this a "private" service by charging - but non-disclosure effectively treats the parents like children.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

I think non-disclosure is to stop the hospital from getting sued if they get the sex wrong. Not saying it's a big a problem over here but I do remember hearing about people wanting to know the sex and then terminating the pregnancy if it isn't what they wanted (not thinking of China here).0

Yes I can see the pitfalls of being sued if they get it wrong but how does handing over £70 or so make such a difference lol I think it's silly to be honest but as I say we would really like to know as it definatly creates a lovely early bond
It will be my 20 week scan in 2wks time and even on the leaflet they sent me it says don't ask ! I just thought something had changed in the mean time as my friend wasn't too sure!
The 3d scan is an option but tbh it's abit expensive for us at the moment....my hubby keeps reminding me we are in a recession ( he breaks out into a cold sweat when I coo over bugaboos!) lol
Thanks for the replys

Although it is the Ulster's policy not to tell you, most of the sonographers will actually tell you if they can get a good enough picture. I knew with the first couple but with the last one they asked did I want to know. However when the sonographer looked she said the way the baby was sitting that she couldn't be 100% sure.
Wait until you have your scan I would say you have a good chance of finding out. Paying for such information simply wouldn't happen at the Ulster.0
