I thought I share my wedding day story with you all, just goes to show the weather couldn't give two hoots about your day!
Well as many of you helpful MSE people know I posted last week about the disaster of my wrong jacket. It was my wedding day yesterday and what could have been a complete snow out turned out good in the end...
Friday night I was supposed to spend with my parents who live about 10 miles away, I ended up snowed into my own house with my husband to be but we thought it'll be fine by tomorrow the snow will have stopped and the buses/taxis will be running again.
The big day dawned, to 3 inches of snow on the ground and more falling. I called every taxi company in the town and they all refused to leave the local area as the gritters and ploughs hadn't been out. Time was ticking by, guests were cancelling, and I was sitting in the living room crying.
Dad to the rescue, our wedding car driver turned out to be an ex rally driver and not in the least bit bothered with the snow. They agreed Dad would get me and the driver would extract the groom to the venue earlier than expected. So off we went, by this point I'd missed my hair appointment and was close to missing the make up artist.
We were literally two streets away from my parents house when the bus (apparently they were running but the travel information people couldn't tell me that) behind us decided to crash into the back of the car. Details exchanged etc. etc.
At the house the make up lady had waited for me, everyone scrambled to get ready. Nothing could be done with my hair except blast it with the straighteners and hope for the best. The wedding car driver finally got to my parents house having dispatched the groom and best man, my poor dad who'd spent half an hour shovelling the path went outside to find the path was buried in snow again.
Now the original plan was to take my mother and daughter to the venue and then he was going to come back for me and my father. Instead we all bundled into the Jag and off we went!
We got there eventually, on time I might add; the photographer kept apologising that he couldn't get to the house for the preparation shots... I was just grateful he made it at all.
Only a few people had made it but we got married and we had our lovely meal, but then here came the snow again! So we called it a night, reception cancelled No one could have got to it though anyway!
No one could have got to it though anyway!
But despite all of this, the guests that did make it were the important ones; our immediate family and closest friends. The people at the venue were so lovely and accommodating to the changes, right down to finding transport to get people out. It wasn't as planned but it came good in the end
So all those months of planning, finalising all the little details, turned into winging it on the day. My husband was most happy... "No first dance? I don't have to dance!! Hoorah!!"

Wow! It will certainly be a wedding to remember!
And it does go to show, that no matter how much you spend, what wee bits and bobs you have, and all that jazz, that love really is all you need! :j
I am glad that it all went well for you both, and lots of love and best wishes for your future together!:beer:0

something to look back on in years to come, not many people will have a tale to match that. congrats on getting married!'We're not here for a long time, we're here for a good time0

Congratulations!! And it will be a story to remember. My best friend married the morning after the 1987 hurricane and looking back it seemed a miracle they made it but 23 years on I remember more details about her day than probably any other wedding I've been to!0

 Congratulations!
You will have a story to tell to the Grandkids and not one of those plastic weddings!
And here I am hoping it won't rain on my day! Puts it into perspective.0

Aw, congratulations Zebramolli! What an eventful and memorable day! The perfect excuse for a big party another time, with better weather and ...........................................................the perfect excuse to wear your dress again!
How you stayed sane and calm I will never know. But then, there wasn't a lot you could do really! Hope you had some insurance or can rearrange some things.
And now, photos please for the noseys!! If you have nothing constructive to say just move along.0 If you have nothing constructive to say just move along.0

Thanks for the messages guys, as requested I've included some photos below. I have to admit I was far from calm most of the morning, I got hit by a massive combination of nerves and relief when I got to the end of the aisle!
Not got the official photos yet so these were taken by a friend
One for all you flower lovers!
The snow never looks as bad in the photos! :rotfl:"Organic!! I grew up on Angel Delight..." - Dylan Moran0
