Thanks for your reply. My union has been involved in this dispute almost since the first day. They have advised that I deal directly with the company and with their help I have sent various emails and letters. Unfortunately HR have never replied to any of these and have not even acknowledged receipt of my list of grievances. The union rep advised that it may be easier to get the money owed to me whilst still employed by them but I feel that because of the way I have been treated I would rather move on. I do have another job I could go to now if I wanted but have stayed put until at least Friday as this is when I am due to be paid. This is why I was asking the question of how much notice I was obliged to give. I am convinced that I will not receive my outstanding wages on Friday and am not sure how I should proceed. I am unable to contact my original union rep as he is unavailable for the foreseeable future and I haven't been able to speak to anyone else there. Hence the reason I am looking for help and advice from the good people on this board.

Today was pay day and I have received only a small fraction of what I expected. Don't have a wage slip to see how the amount is made up because we obviously have had no mail due to the weather. Also have still not received an acknowledgement or reply from company re letter listing grievances (sent 2 weeks ago). Will need to contact them obviously to find out how this amount was made up but need to know what my next step should be. I thought a formal grievance should be raised but do I still need to be employed by the company in order to do this? I am really struggling to buy christmas presents for the kids and have been offered a job which is paid weekly. This would allow me to at least get something for them. Any advice would be greatly appreciated again!

You do not have to be still in employment to raise a grievance - but I cannot recommend leaving your employment without taking advice from your union. Any claim that you might make may be damaged by resigning before a grievance - so again, speak to the union.
