Am having a lil walk down memory lane, (songs from the 80's!!), and am currently lovin' the song below. Makes me think that it all might be worth it. Has anyone else got any other suggestions, i.e. songs that you draw strength from?
Artist: Deacon Blue
Song Title: Dignity
Album: Raintown
there's a man i meet walks up our street
he's a worker for the council
has been twenty years
and he takes no lip off nobody
and litter off the gutter
puts it in a bag
and never seems to mutter
and he packs his lunch in a "sunblest" bag
the children call him "bogie"
he never lets on
but i know 'cause he once told me
he let me know a secret about the money in his kitty
he's gonna buy a dinghy
gonna call her dignity
and i'll sail her up the west coast
through villages and towns
i'll be on my holidays
they'll be doing their rounds
they'll ask me how i got her i'll say "i saved my money"
they'll say isn't she pretty that ship called dignity
and i'm telling this story
in a faraway scene
sipping down raki
and reading maynard keynes
and i'm thinking about home and all that means
and a place in the winter for dignity
and i'll sail her up the west coast
through villages and towns
i'll be on my holidays
they'll be doing their rounds
they'll ask me how i got her i'll say "i saved my money"
they'll say isn't she pretty that ship called dignity
and i'm thinking about home
and i'm thinking about faith
and i'm thinking about work
and i'm thinking about how good it would be
to be here some day
on a ship called dignity
a ship called dignity
that ship

HOME LOAN BLUES - SIMPLY RED
Just a man, good and sometimes bad
But striving to do the best that I can
Help a hand when the one close by you falls
Understanding can do the rest and that aint all
Hope I can please you but the truth isnt easy to say
The more that youre spending the more itll get in your way
I say it to please you to forget what you have done, so pray
I got the blues from the debt of the people today
You can have it all but youve got to pay
You can have it all dont pay me today
Wotcha man as the bills around you grow
Providing you take a loan to pay for them all
Help a hand when the one close by you falls
Depending if the fool keeps spending it all
You can have it all but youve got to pay
(you can have it)
Credit cards, mortgage, home loans for your holidayIsn't the knowledge that comes from experience more valuable than the knowledge that doesn't?0 -

I am afraid I cant remember the words but there was one that sticks in my mind. That went "You've got to have some money in the bank Frank, you've got to have some money in the bank. About 1957 I remember it because that was the name of the man who lived opposite us.Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination:beer:

Oh, I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor! All you need to do is pretend she's talking about her Barclaycard and it fits perfectly

First I was afraid
I was petrified
Kept thinking I could never live
without you by my side
But I spent so many nights
thinking how you did me wrong
I grew strong
I learned how to carry on
and so you're back
from outer space
I just walked in to find you here
with that sad look upon your face
I should have changed my stupid lock
I should have made you leave your key
If I had known for just one second
you'd be back to bother me
Go on now go walk out the door
just turn around now
'cause you're not welcome anymore
weren't you the one who tried to hurt me with goodbye
you think I'd crumble
you think I'd lay down and die
Oh no, not I
I will survive
as long as i know how to love
I know I will stay alive
I've got all my life to live
I've got all my love to give
and I'll survive
I will survive
It took all the strength I had
not to fall apart
kept trying hard to mend
the pieces of my broken heart
and I spent oh so many nights
just feeling sorry for myself
I used to cry
Now I hold my head up high
and you see me
somebody new
I'm not that chained up little person
still in love with you
and so you felt like dropping in
and just expect me to be free
now I'm saving all my loving
for someone who's loving me

Not quite as musically minded as the rest of you, but there are a couple of songs that come to mind:
1. The one that most aptly sums up my situation: Sunny Afternoon by the Kinks.
2. A couple of lines, from the pen of the immortal Bob Dylan that keep me going: "When you got nothing you got nothing to lose"
Just don't ask me to sing, though:rolleyes:I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

How about 'King of the Road' the Proclaimers?
"I smoke auld stogies I have found, short but not to beg around,
I'm a man of means by no means, King of the road""Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it." (Montgomery, L.M.(1908). Anne of Green Gables.)

'Kerching' by Shania Twain makes me cringe as it rings so many alarm bells, the words are so true!
'Money's too tight to mention' by Simply Red makes me smile and 'One in ten' by UB40 seems to have played a big part in our lives this part couple of years.Debt at highest £102k
