Hi
I currently work for a large international company and have done for 10 years. I'm currenlty having serious thoughts about chucking it all in and moving abroad. I do not have any ties in this country and at the age of 28 I would like to test the water before it gets too late. I would love to take maybe 6 months or a year off work to see how i get on, is this a common thing? Is it a recognised request or will i get laughed at? and are there any laws/rights i have?
A very confused boy with itchy feet......

Some places (for example my local council) allowed it's employee's to take a career break for a period of time, before returning to the post. Unpaid, of course.0

I don't think you have any legal right to unpaid leave of this sort, but as it's a large international company you may stand a good chance if you are a valued employee.
Is there a manager or someone in HR who you could chat to informally to see what the possibilties are?The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0
