    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_registration_plates_of_the_United_Kingdom

I was hoping this might of been some help as the coding of new number plates is area specific (as were the last ie we know the car is supplied by park lane mini so if registered there that should help with the first letter to guess...
ie if it was based in London Wimbledon it would be
L ( A to J for second letter) 60 and then your guess of 3 last letters

U though doesnt appear to have been given an area in england, wales or scotland
it is used in northern Ireland though

    UIDerry City
    UZBelfast

so it could be UI 60 ??? or UZ 60 ??? following the DVLA'S allocations
EDIT: BUT THIS ISNT POSSIBLE SEE DOJIVES POST#7 (They aren't in the same format though. NI plates are LLL NNNN)

although it could still be a private plate  :undecided: or it could be just a made up reg that doesn't exist

Hope this helps someone and that we have a lucky mse winner..
any thoughts or a better link to the coding allocations for 2010 ?

EDIT: There is a link somewhere where you can find out what type of car a reg is allocated to (like your insurers when you type a reg it comes up as a porsche (i wish) or a ford fiesta ) so you can check if your guess is allocated to a mini ;) but i can't find the link. And who has the time to go through all possible 52000 variations per initial letter ?
(ie 52000+ for ui 52000+ for uz ) (please be advised it is early and my maths could be out ;) )

The winner will be drawn from the first 5000 entries only !!
Thank you to all the posters and the forum guides for all your hard work it is appreciated ...

Jan starting off as the year will pan out ...nothing lol
  • I didn't even think of that!

I considered the possibility of the car being displayed in the shopping centre and making a special trip to take a look around...

they probably have special plates over it , but you never know you might still be able to see the last letter

There is a similar (or was) comp running on fb and i couldn't find this info then...its probably a long shot because the page is a little old, i was hoping we'd find all cars from park lane began ul or something like that so we would only have to guess the last 3 letters.
Im wondering if they are only counting the first 5000 entries how they are going to award the prize as i doubt anyone in 5000 would guess it :)

There is a way of finding it a reg is for a mini. Some insurance online ask for the reg of the car you wish to insure, keep doing this on one of them until it comes up with a mini reg. I'm not sure which are the ones to use (Moneysupermarket I think may be the best)

You can get a personalised plate with any combination of letters at the start, excluding I Z and Q, so I wouldn't guess at a UI or UZ reg as they are not possible, whereas UA UB etc are all perfectly fine.

mmm I never knew that cheers, ( as in they have an extra letter) i also think its possible to be a private plate as stated.

another fact is The letters I and Q are excluded from the three-letter sequence, as are combinations that may appear offensive (including those in foreign languages)
    so it can't be UM60INI
i bet its something like UB60RUN ...but i doubt anyone will guess it and they will just choose a random person from the first 5k
need to re check the t&c's

    The t&c's are interesting.
There's nothing that says you win if you guess it right.
It's an odd one. You'd expect it to say the winner will be the first correct guess, or in the case of no correct guesses will be drawn from the first 5000 entrants. But it just says it'll be drawn from the first 5000 entrants.

  • What a seriously odd competition! Nothing obvious to base the guess on at all?
