  • Our potatoes are peeled, mashed, seasoned and mixed with cream, in a bag in the freezer. After defrosting, I will mix in an egg and cook them in mounds - healthier than a roast potato, but only just. Our parsnips and swede are also frozen as mash.

I made a boozy Christmas pud in the slow cooker and that is sealed in the pantry. The cake is also in there. Nearer the time, I will put a batch of shortbread together, and one of mince pies.

Cheese has a long shelf life. I bet you could buy that in advance. Crisps and nibbles keep for months. So does the wine. Look out for special offers and have a stash in a special cupboard.
  • not very OS i know but im afraid i use frozen parsnips, turkey and roast potatos and stuffing and either frozen or ready prepared veg so only have to peal the potatos for the mash then make sure i time evrything right, i refuse to spend hours in the kitchen when everyone else is enjoying them selves and i dont want to miss watching the kids open their presents

I like preparing things on xmas eve so I have never prepared so far in advance. I might pick up a few tips though so I can spend more of xmas eve eating chocolate!
