  • I used it as a trial some time ago, however it gave a really nice even colour with different tones so looked quite natural (better than my usual L'oreal one) The foam was nice as it wasn't as gloopy to apply as a cream/lotion. I'd say go for it!

  • Hi everyone, Re John Frieda foam hair colour experience

I was an 'dark ash blonde' but wanted to add some warmth so thought to try John Frieda Light golden brown. The side of the pack illustrated the change between dark blonde to expected colour results, and on the strength of the illustrations I bought the product to try.

For me - There was a combination of good and bad results.
Good Results: the foam was easy to apply, no smell to tell of, there was enough of the product. and the condition, shine and vibrance of colour is excellent. Bad results: the colour did not come out the warm golden brown - or a shade darker - it came out the darkest brown with crimson highlights. For me it was a bit of a shock.

I phoned up John Frieda advice line. the advice I was given - use a medicated shampoo a few times (leaving the shampoo on the hair for a few minutes each time) To lift some of the colour out - leave for a few weeks and try their blonde 8A. (I did not want to be a light blonde!! hmm)

I asked if they had any idea why such a contrast to the colour on the packet to the resulting colour. They did not know but thought it may be that I was finding the colour dark after being blonde. I disagree with that comment particularly as I put strands of my hair next to the colour illustrated on the box and found there was no similarity.

The results for me mean that I would be apprehensive about using John Frieda foam colour again, which is a shame as the condition of the hair strands were very good in comparison to other hair colours.

As I am due to have an operation in another eight days time _ I could have done without this.... So another lesson in there methinks !!!
  • very funny you say that about the warm golden brown. I used mine in December and came out awful. i hadnt dyed my hair beforehand and came out about 4 different colours including a red shade and looked quite stripey and patchy. my hair was just a light brown colour before, nothing thru it.
I had to get my hair dyed a very dark brown and even now you can still see the red colour through it.

Will def not be buying it again based on my experience
