Hi all,
This isnt for me its for my dad, but I thought I'd ask here as I haven't got the foggiest about what he's talking about!
When he uses re-writable dvd's with his dvd recorder everything works fine, but if he uses the other type of dvd, lots of times they will not finalise but sometimes they do. This is a big pain the behind for him as he gets really frustrated that hes spent ages recording something and then the thing wont finalise! as I said before I havent a clue about any of this kind of stuff but thought somebody on here may have some insight into it?!
Thanks for any help

Not sure why it works sometimes and other times, it doesnt, but it may be the type of DVD he's using which may be the problem...
If he tried to use a DVD- tell him try to use a DVD+
If he tried to use a DVD+ tell him try to use a DVD-
Other than that, try to clean its lazer (there are CDs which can do this, check on the internet or PCworld or somewhere like that)
If that doesnt help, it may be the DVDrecorder which has gone titsup... try taking it to the shop you brought it from if its under warantee
(Dont wory, I'm sure he knows what I'm talking about)0 -
Thanks so much Skiddy2k, I'll ring and tell him now....like you say, I havent a clue what it means but I'm sure he will;)
Thanks,

What type of DVD recorder is it... I have a Liteon and if you want to use a disk before it is full you have to manually finalise it. But if the disk is nearing full it will automatically finalise it before it runs out of space. Its basically the same as multisession discs you write on a PC.0

this may sound stupid but as you say it happens sometimes, is the screen saver cutting in while the disk is still burning?0

Is he finalising the discs because he wants to watch them in a different DVD player?
I believe that if you are going to watch the disc in the machine it was recorded on, there is no need to finalise. Doesn't solve the problem of not finalising, but it does mean they can still be watched.Charlie0 -
Its a DVDRecorder he's using... not a DVD drive on the PC... its like a DVDplayer with a HardDrive (nothing to do with PC... usualy)gaming_guy wrote:this may sound stupid but as you say it happens sometimes, is the screen saver cutting in while the disk is still burning?0
