Help Needed, Can They Take My Benefits ??

  • Thanks all, feel so much better about it already as like you have all said, I am offering to pay something, it's them that keep refusing.

I will make sure I get it all in writing especially if they refuse.

Sindy, that sounds like just the account I'm after, will try there asap.

    Thanks
  • Hi Emmaclair78

You've already had lots of good advice but just wanted to add, i also defaulted on a barclayloan and was on income support at the time. Barclays once took out my tax credits & housing benefit and i was absolutely furious:mad: I phoned the financial ombudsman & they told me they regard this action as "highly inappropriate" for someone on benefits and is in breach of the Banking Code. Ombudsman also complained to Barclays on my behalf. I phoned Barclays and insisted they put the money back straight away, which they did with no question (suggesting to me they knew they were in the wrong all along)

Hopefully you'll avoid this anyway, but if money does ever get taken out, get on that phone quick & be as assertive as you possibly can with them...quote the financial ombudsman as above & tell them you'll pursue the matter if they don't put the money back straight away;)

    best wishes & good luck

  • Morning all, have just got off the phone to Barclays and we have come to a temporary agreement.

For 12mths I can pay £39 a month, then after 12mths I have to start paying £80. If i can't then afford the £80, it will go to the recovery dept.

I am quite happy with this, I hope after the 12 mths I will be in a position to pay £80 a mnoth but if not, I am sure I will have sorted out a new bank account by then and so at least won't be in fear of them leaving me penniless.

Cheeky sod asked me why there were quite a few paypal payments from my account , he soon shut up when I said I buy my kids clothes from there as I can't afford new.

Thankyou so much to everyone who helped me with this, you all made me feel so much better yesterday and if it weren't for you lot I would have still been sat here worrying about it, so THANKYOU :)

Glad to hear you have come to an agreement and are happy with it - I guess that if at anytime you feel like you can make a higher payment you will be able to?
