For schools a good idea is to ask parents to donate a food or toiletry items from M&S to make up a hamper as a raffle prize.
In my DD old school which only had just under 200 pupils we always managed to make at least 2 food hampers and one smellie one. We bought baskets cheap years earlier and put a note in the bottom politely asking if they would return it to the school if they had no use for it.
We also made up 2 childrens hampers with some games, jigsaws and sweets. The games nearly always came from the donations for toy stall. We only used the new games that came in.
