  • thanks guys, will just ignore for now..... they sound like the sort of Bucket shop that will try to place the debt on anyone who replies so I'm glad I came on here first.
  • Hi All,
My husband received a letter from these people on Saturday, unfortunately not knowing anything about First Credit, he contacted them to see what it was about. The debt referred to was his ex-wife's which he had agreed to pay off as part of the divorce settlement back in 2000. However, he was threatened with bailiffs and increased charges etc and so paid £1200 on his debit card, I've contacted the bank to see if the payment could be stopped and have to wait until it appears on the statement for them to see if it can be refunded. Does his payment admit liability?
  • Hi
My husband also got a letter on Saturday from 1st Credit. He phoned them on Monday, advised them that he was recording the call, had notified the OFT and police about the letter they sent and also advised them that he had looked on the internet about them and knew about their bullying tactics. When they asked for his date of birth to confirm his identity he asked them to tell him this as they claimed they knew all about him, this threw them and they agreed to stop all communication to him and mark case as unable to confirm identity at this address.
Lets see if we do get the follow up info they promise after 10 days but I think telling them you know about their history and having to report to the Office of Fair Trading regularly seemed to throw them off guard - worth trying.
Shall let you know if we hear anymore.
  • Well, it's been more than 10 days - anyone had any further letters? (I haven't, but today's post not arrived as yet)
  • My husband still hasn't received a letter and the 10 days are well past, so lets hope they have given up on us all and let us all have a stress free Christmas not having to worry about the rubbish coming from 1st Credit.

Hi I have just received a letter off these people asking me to call them... However, I know for a fact that I have no debt outstanding at my previous address. When I sold my property I paid everything off, and on my credit score it is all showing as settled! I have a couple of debts at my new address which I am paying ok every month, and either way they are registered at this address, not the previous one. I judge by their letter that it is in relation to my old address, although they give me no details. I intend to ignore this until they can provide evidence of what they are chasing me for. It can't be another person as I am pretty sure no one else has my name.. it is very unusual. Can't they relate you to other family members debt, or only debts in that name?

It is so scary when you read what people have gone through with this company. I have struggled with debt in the past and am finally getting my credit rating where I want it, I can't believe these people could come along and mess it up for something that I can only imagine is not a real debt!
Am I doing the right thing ingnoring them?
  • I have dealt with this company, actually they were very polite. I think it depends upon which collector you get?

Never a good idea to ignore letters. Why not call them? Probably an old statute barred debt. Just say you are not prepared to pay it.
