DH needs a new shaver!

Its DH's birthday in a couple of days so I decided to buy him a new shaver. Hes got a philips but he complains that it doesn't cope well with stubble more than a day old. I've got the Argos gift guide in front of me and theres one for half price- a philips coolskin for £74. Can anyone suggest a good shaver? Price is not a concern, but a special offer would certainly be welcomed.
Many thanks!

Oh dear. I already posted on "Vent Bent...."-"Rip Offs....."."Electric Shavers only last two years"
Cut a long story short, shavers only last as long as the re-chargeable battery. Usually two years.
I had a Braun which it said cannot be opened without destroying the shaver. It had died and I did open it to discover that what looks like a AA had been soldiered on to the board. Don't bother trying to get them repaired, it isn't worth it.
I asked loads of places for advice but no-one could offer to sell anything better. Eventually I went to a specialist shop, he only sells shavers and he recommended anouther Braun but would not sell me one over £50.00 because "They are not worth it because they are all rubbish nowadays"
It's a rip off.You have been warned!!0 -

I have to disagree with you, I've owned two Philips rotary shavers(£120/£80) over the past 8 years, my current one is about 4 years old and holds it's charge like new as far as I can tell ie. long enough not to recharge it for a couple of weeks.

I'm quite honestly very pleased to hear this davemuk but I can only relate my experience also, why do they not just simply make them with replaceable batteries? All rechargeable batteries I've ever had have not lasted.0

If you want to splash out, my Dad has just got the Philips SmartTouch-XL HQ9170 (http://www.boots.com/shop/product_details.jsp?productid=1064065&classificationid=1027217&slmRefer=000) - says it is fantastic!Gone ... or have I?0

I've found the batteries in the Phillips twin-head shavers last a lot longer than the 3 head ones (the latest twin-head is over 6 years old and still going strong). Similar experience to DK with the last (definitely the last...) 3-head.0

I had a quick look at "This one", reviews and although most people think it's the best a man can get few say how long it will last. One did say he had his for 2 years but another's died after 15 months.
I'm like your OH (?), I like Braun but it is a lot of money and we should be told the life expectancy and why we can't simply replace batteries.0 -
C'mon all you shavers, everywhere. Please help.
We all need a shaver that makes our face like a baby's bum but we shouldn't be offered lots of gimmicks etc.and a hugh price for what is a low tech. simple machine that suffers from a high price and an obsolescence because it has re- chargeable battery cannot be replaced.
All batteries need replaced. The best one I have is in my car and that will need replaced in probably 4/5 years. Don't suggest to me that I should change my car because the battery needs replaced.

Suppose you could always get a battery-operated one and put some rechargeables in it?
Perhaps Phillips should be sueing Apple (iPod) for the non-replaceable battery patent...0
