How much fine for blocking doctor's surgery driveway?

I have blocked driveway of a surgery by parking car in front of the surgery. When I returned to my car after about 30 mins, I show a note on my windscreen saying "you are blocking doctor's driveway, your numbers taken and police informed". It was a note on a piece of a paper.

The surgery's opening hours on that day was 9.0 to 12.30 and 4.00 to 6.00pm. I have parked car from 2pm to 2.30pm thiking that the surgery is closed. There was no car in the driveway but I was blocking the way in.

It just has happened today, so police not contacted me yet. I am not sure what will happen next, how much they going to fine me? will there me any penality points on my driving licence? it was doctor's surgery driveway not a normal house driveway, does it make difference in terms of fine and offense.

Regards
Saurabh

I don't think they can do anything if you were not issued with a ticket or a CEO or Police officer took your details. Were you parked across a dropped kerb? Even if you were issued a ticket it would be payable by the amount what ever is in force where the offence took place. You would not receive any penalty points.

You are however if it is a dropped kerb better off parking somewhere else.
  • Thanks for your comments. There is one thing which I didn't mention in the original post, When I came back to my car there was a lady from the surgery who told me that police have taken details ( I think car registration number or may be a picture). Yes the car was parked across a dropped kerb.
How much is generally a fine for an offence parking across a dropped kerb? This was in North West London, if it any help. Thx again

    Get. Off. The. Road.

You're clearly not fit to be behind the wheel of a car.

If you get a ticket for this it will be for £120 but you then get a 50% discount if you pay it within fourteen days.

Parking over a dropped kerb is an offence, and with it being a doctors surgery it could have been serious if the doctor needed to be somewhere. The above post is blunt but I can see were there coming from. It would be wise and cheaper if you study the Highway code and parking regulations.

So because the surgery was closed where did you think the Doctor was, at home having a siesta or having a three and a half hour lunch break?

Doctors are out on calls during this period but need access to their surgery at all times in case of emergencies.

If the police had taken the details they would have given you a FPN surely, I am not a 100% sure that they do those through the post, i'm sure somebody will confirm or not!

But why are you parking across an entrance to a car park ? I'm not one to criticise , but surely you lack a common courtesy to other road users by not following basic rules of parking!
Excel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?

My understanding was it is illegal to block someone in on their driveway (i.e. illegal to block access to the highway) but not illegal to park across their driveway if no car on it as you are not blocking access to the highway. As the OP was not blocking a car in I cannot see where the problem in the law is? The dropped kerb is no doubt to allow car access and not disabled access. Or is blocking any kind of dropped pavement an offence?

It depends if it was an entrance to a driveway or a dropped kerb, with a matching one on the other side of the road.

Maybe the police just took details to appease the woman who was complaining? I honestly can't see them doing anything; they would have issued an FPN at the time, if there was an offence being committed. And, as we don't know where the OP is from, we don't even know whether or not parking is decriminalised. If it is, then the police wouldn't take much of an interest unless he was, for example, causing an obstruction.
  • Thanks everyone for their comments and views. It was in North West London (Brent Council), it's an entrance to driveway
but there was no car parked in the driveway at that time, but the lady told me that doctor wanted to park his car and he
couldn't. I think, I should now wait and see if anything comes through my letter box. thanks again

The dropped kerb needs to be opposite each other and should be pedestrian dropped kerbs for wheelchairs prams and such like.

If it is a access dropped kerb they can ticket you but it is for causing an obstruction.
