Not always easy unless you give up the chance for prizes you do want.
I have entered where the main prize is no use to me but the runner up prizes are, although more often there are competitions where the runner up prizes may not be things I want but the main prize is.

Things that I don't want too much I'm saving up to do something for charity (Hounds for Heroes) as my son is raising money as part of his Duke of Edinburgh award

Ah yes good point.
Also, if you have anything that's good for children your local shopping centre may be doing a collection to give them as presents to needy local kids :A
