Which RC Plane?

Hi MSE-ers,
DH wants an RC Plane, a fancy jet type thing I believe, however I know zip about them and want to get one for him for Christmas as a surprise.
Are there any RC enthusiasts out there who can advise me? I have around £100 to spend, don't want something too fiddly to set up (strong chance it'll be left in it's box until the end of time) he's never had one before but but I know he won't be happy with a 'beginner' model; he likes a challenge!
Hope you can help,
Amb x

Starting off:
RC planes can be a difficult skill to learn, took me awhile. So you need something that is going to be robust. How old is he?
This might be a good starter, got it for my 9 year old and she loves it.

Failing that, the RAF are about to get rid of a load of Harriers so watch out on ebay.IVA Completed - 2010"Wine for my men, we ride at dawn"960 -

I'm afraid at £100 he will be restricted to 'beginner' planes. Even a reasonable remote control for planes will cost comfortably in excess of £100. On top of this, if you go for an electric model plane you have battery packs and chargers to buy (£25+ each) - for petrol the cost of the engine and starter. To control the plane you'll may to buy servos - although if you buy the remote control as a kit they normally come with that. You would be lucky to get started for much less than £300.
You could try something like this which looks like a good halfway house, and what man doesn't want his own spitfire

Thanks everyone! After much searching and talking to people I've discovered that my local RC club will teach him how to fly for free (there's some moneysaving in action for ya) which is nice.
It's nice to open something on Christmas morning though so I'm either going to spend £122 on a Hobbyzone SuperCub or £89 on a Mini SuperCub. The jury is still out on whether the regular sized version is worth the extra £33... I've posted the question on an RC forum but if anyone on here has either plane and can advise me that'd be great!0
