Cleaning freezer door seal

Hi there
Despite cleaning regularly, there is a build up of gunge which is determined to stay on the seal of the freezer door
As I have finally managed to get Stardrops, is it possible to use it neat and with a toothbrush to clean the seal, or is it better to dilute?

Hi,
I would try it neat, if you mess it up, think about getting a new seal, seem easy enough to fit. Look.0 -
Stardrops will be fine, I'm sure, infact you've given me an idea to use it on mine, as mine always seems to stick.0

I seem to remember someone saying that you should run a little vasoline over seal after it has been cleaned to keep it flexible and making a good seal.0

I am just about to go and defrost a chest freezer which has been in the garage for 5 years. We plan to move food out into plastic bags in the shade and cover with thick blankets. Then turn off freezer, bowls of hot water with alternate use of hairdryer.
However, the seals are black with mildew and looking on the web some advice is to use bleach, others say don't use bleach as it dries the seals out. I thought about stardrops first, then vinegar and maybe bicarb, but we will have to work quickly so that the food doesn't thaw out.
Does anyone else have any tried and tested advice please?Solar Suntellite 250 x16 4kW Afore 3600TL dual 2KW E 2KW W no shade, DN15 March 14

Kim and Aggie use an old toothbrush and toothpaste ( the normal white creamy one) and they always look as if they have worked on TV.It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your window

Thank you so much JackieO. I just knew that in the back of my mind I had read of something more straightforward, and the toothpaste is exactly it! Wish me luck!Solar Suntellite 250 x16 4kW Afore 3600TL dual 2KW E 2KW W no shade, DN15 March 14

If you can borrow a steam cleaner they are fab for cleaning difficult to get at places and will also cut through the ice and help with defrosting.Piglet

The hair dryer was fab and the frost, surprisingly little after all these years, came off the side of the freezer in huge chunks. Once the inside had been cleaned out thoroughly, however, the food looked as though it was slightly defrosting, so I have had to replace it pronto and will leave the seals for another day when I can do them safe in the knowlege that the food in the freezer is frozen solid. I was very surprised to see that apart from one cobweb, there was no dust as such on the coil at the back, so maybe it is working pretty efficiently after all.
Now we will have a week or two of UFO's to eat up, as no matter how thoroughly I label the items they always seem to end up detached from the container and litter the bottom of the freezer!Solar Suntellite 250 x16 4kW Afore 3600TL dual 2KW E 2KW W no shade, DN15 March 14
