Credit rating - mistake at NTL - affected rating
Hi,
I'm not sure if this is the best place, but given I'm came across this while trying to shift a loan to a better deal, I thought I might try posting here:
I've had some trouble with NTL that has resulted in 3 months in arrears of bills totalling about £10 (all their fault, debt has since been wiped).
As a result, my credit rating now has 3 months in arrears listed under my accounts at Equifax.
I'm going to contact NTL to see what they can do, but can NTL remove these 3 months of arrears from my record with themselves, and in turn the Credit Ref Agency? Or do I need to get proof from NTL and send it to the CRA with a letter? Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I want to get this matter sorted ASAP and get it off my record!
Thanks
Tom
p.s. I would highly recommend never having all of NTL's services then reduce to just Broadband - chaos ensues and it's the biggest waste of your time ever.

I have had the exact same problem!
I cancelled a NTL contract in June 2003. A few months ago I got my credit report and they had me down as 2 months in arrears. Further calls and I find out that £122 of dent had been wiped off my account. Puzzled I asked them to look into it, and they admitted they had cocked up. When I cancelled the package they only cancelled the phone deal and not the internet deal as well (I wanted both cancelled). They said they would correct my report by contacting Equifax and co. 2 months down the line I've heard nothing, and a call I made yesterday got me the number for the Credit Control Team Leader based at Luton. I am going to call him tomorrow to get an update on where they are. I would also like to discuss suitable compensation as well. Some people don't think I am entitled to any, but NTL have messed up my credit report for 3 years, in which time I have been turned down for loans etc (decisions that baffled me as I could easily afford the repayments).0 -
Thanks to everyone who's replied, I'll contact the relevnt CRAs after speaking to NTL to see what they will do - fingers crossed it'll get sorted.0
