Hi All,
Just wanted to post a general thank-you to all members and the money tips email for keeping me on the straight and narrow towards getting rid of my debt. Phoenix79 just inspired me to write my first post as I was quite daunted before - I've taken all my inspiration from this site and contributed nothing/given no thanks so here it is. I started my trip down debt free lane by getting out of my £2k overdraft which I'd been in on a monthly basis since graduating in 2003 and making the final payment of my £2k graduate loan in March 2006. I then managed to get my ideal full-time job which gave me the extra income I needed to start paying things off properly as I'd struggled on my part-time wages working cleaning jobs on the other two days to boost my income.
So a big thanks to the following for helping me start to shift my debt:
timedelay vouchers - my shelves are full of products under a fiver in this range which Boots kindly gave away so I won't need to buy cleansing wipes and facial scrub for months! ...
the mobile phone advise which helped me half my monthly bill to only £22 when my contract renewal date arrived - threatening to leave them produced the results....
credit card debt shifting advise - did balance transfers to the cards in my signature (I tried tarting but I'm afraid my personal admin wasn't quite up to the task) so now I have only 2 direct debits to manage rather than the 5 or 6 I had at one point....
my boyfriend - making the big step of moving in with my boyfriend who has no mortgage so I'm lucky enough to be able to use my rent money to pay off my debt even faster (not purely for moneysaving reasons of course!
) he's been so supportive and was the first (and only until now) person I've ever told my debt problems to - that was a tearful and embarrassing conversation. I was in denial until I'd verbalised the situation with someone else. He's been so supportive, even helped me get a bigger salary in my new job by encouraging me to ask for more. He was right - if you don't ask you don't get...
and finally to the Snowball calculator which has just shown me I can be debt free in just a few months.
I feel so much more in control now and although April seems like miles away I know it isn't in the grand scheme of things. We even managed to have a big holiday this year (my first in 3 years) and learn to scuba dive! which I could pay for out of my current account rather than reaching for the credit cards - that felt very satisfying.
I have tears in my eyes thinking about how things were back when I thought it was all so out of control. Thanks again everyone.

Thanks again everyone.

Just remembered I had multiple store cards too before I did all my balance transfers - my bank statements were a right mess!! I'm so excited that it's almost sorted out now. :j:idea: March 2006...
