Incorrect balance

Hi there,

I am currently half way through my 3 year fixed and contacted my mortgage company to request a balance.
I was told £93,359, please that I got under the 100 point I increased my payments from £827 per month to £850 to try and reduce it again.
A couple of days later I received a letter stating my new mortgage monthly payment on a balance of £99,359???????????????
I contacted them straight away to enquiry where the extra £6k had come from but was told
Op No your balance is definitely £99,359
Me Why was I told £93,359 then?
Op You could not have been told £93 as it shows on the system as £99,359. we keep recordings of all telephone conversations
Me Can you listen to my conversation then.

2 days later I get a telephone call from my mortgage company stating I was told £93,359 but it was a mistake and my balance is actually £99,359.

Can I do anything about this…….such as get them to drop my balance to £93,359?

Thanks is advance

There's no way they'll give you 6k because someone's incorrectly read a number on a screen. Surely you must have had a notion that the figure you were given was inaccurate?

Absolutely not. If they'd told you your balance was £110k, would you have been happy to pay that incorrect balance?

At most (and you'd be seriously pushing it) you might get a very small token payment for 'loss of expectation' if you complained - but only if it was remotely reasonable for you to believe that your balance was so low.

I knew Martin was wrong, there are some stupid questions.
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.

Yes. You pay them £6000 and they will reduce it.

Not quite £6k tho. If you accidentaly tell me your car is for sale for £5k, but later you realise your silly error and tell me you mean't £15k, then according to your logic you will honour the £5k, nice to know.

I hope that was adequate compensation for the distress they caused you.

So did you ask for £6000?
