Extra Bankholiday

  • I'd rather be in work to be honest; and take the day when I want it.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

Why should people lose a days holiday for a wedding, one way or another if your agency, self employed etc you lose

It's just another way of the gvt making us think they are giving us something, which they aren't. And taking our attention away from the pigs ear they are making of the economy. 'Ooh look, shiny things'....makes me sad that the UK can't keep it's head and work it out.

  • I'm actually ok because I believe my company are paying for it as a bank holiday, but the Oh is agency so he will lose out. also we are getting an extra day in 2012 for the jubilee.
  • Any holiday entitlement above and beyond the statutory minimum is purely contractual, so you will need to ask your employer.

    Why the euphoria indeed...

I always work on Bank Holidays. I get a day off in lieu to take in the future.

So many people work on Bank Holidays. All those in retail, leisure industries, hospitals etc. not to mention the self-employed.

Wow we day off in April and the media are hyping it up...
  • This is from the government website:
    • You are entitled to a minimum of 5.6 weeks paid annual leave (28 days for someone working five days a week)
So, as mentioned, your employer can 'swallow up' the extra bank holiday in 2011 (and 2012) within your current holiday entitlement.

Hopefully you have a contract that says "20 days plus bank holidays" rather than "28 days including bank holidays"

I'm getting the extra bank holiday - I am absolutely delighted. I am going to take 11 days off (over my birthday as well) for only 3 days annual leave.

    Epic.
