Extra Bankholiday

We are entitled to 28 days paid leave which can if your employer wish's include bank holidays.
The government has announced an extra bank holiday for april next year for the royal wedding, does this mean we will get an extra days holday from work i.e 29 days instead of 28?

From what I have read so not sure how accurate it is if the employer says 20 days PLUS bank holidays then they must give the extra day as a holiday if it falls on the day of normal work.
However if they say you are entitled to 28 days holiday then they can incorporate it into the 28 days.The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

My OH works for an agency and get 28 days which he must use 8 for bank holidays, so will he be getting an extra day to cover the extra bank holiday or will he have to take it out of his 20 remaining days0

Public and bank holidays
You do not have a statutory right to paid leave on bank and public holidays. If your employer gives paid leave on a bank or public holiday, this can count towards your minimum holiday entitlement. There are eight permanent bank and public holidays in England and Wales (nine in Scotland and ten in Northern Ireland).

No you wont
Stat will still be 5.6 weeks.
Employees who are entitled to this will still only get this
Employees entitled to bank holidays will get it
Employees entitled to 11 days (or whatever it is) public holidays wont get it.
Entitlement will be contract based.
Why should employers have to bankroll this anyway.0 -
Yeah sorry i did read it. From what i can make out then the euphoria over an extra day off next year is probably unwarranted as we will now have 9 forced holidays and only 19 choice holidaysBe Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0

Why should people lose a days holiday for a wedding, one way or another if your agency, self employed etc you lose0
