AMAZON BLACK FRIDAY FAQ's

How do I buy an item?

You must click onto the banner on the main page of amazon.co.uk which says 'Black Friday deals week, thousands of products at must-have prices'

This will then take you to a page which lists all of the items with download timers until they go on sale

If there is a product you want you must wait on that page, NOT the product page for it to become live, if you go onto the actual products page you WILL NOT get the deal!

When it becomes live an 'Add to basket' logo will appear, you have to click this as quick as possible to try secure your item in your basket

Do I need to be logged in first to buy an item?

Although likely not to be a problem as many have been able to checkout items without initially logging in, it can sometimes work against you and cause for the item not to be secured on rare occasions, there is no harm in being prepared so why not login first just to be sure?

I've been placed in a queue, why?

This happens when you haven't been quick enough to get the item straight away, if your in the queue for more than 10 seconds it is unlikely you are going to get the item, there have however been successes at waiting in the queue for an item so don't give up hope, it is unlikely you will get the item when being placed in the queue but if you have no problems leaving the page open then you might as well wait.

I got it in my basket, how long do I have to pay?

You have in most cases up until midnight on the day the item was listed to decide if you want to purchase it or not, after this it will be released from your basket, and you will not be able to get the discounted price. It has become apparent however that some items cannot be held until midnight and some users have lost out by not paying earlier. If you have the chance to pay for it when your sure you want it then it is probably best to do it then rather than wait until the last minute.

I thought I got the deal but the item is showing as full price in my basket

In your basket under the normal price, it should list the 'Promotional Price' this is the price you will be paying, also when you go to checkout on the final screen, on the right hand side where it lists your order summary it should show the discount you have received in the 'promotion applied' section and the final amount to pay

Its a joke, there are hardly if any items, this is a massive scam by Amazon

It is what it is, and Amazon are selling these products in limited quantities, not everyone is going to get one and luck comes into play when trying to secure a product, they are selling items at the price they state so it isn't a scam at all, if anything its a very clever piece of marketing

I can't see the countdown timers for the items

Some computers may experience problems as not all are the same it is important to try find the most simplistic way to solve the problem, and a likely quick fix is to try use another browser, if this doesn't work then try another computer if you have access to one, other than that it is hard for anyone to give you advice without physically being at your pc

Maybe this should be stickied just while the Amazon Black Friday promotion is on to avoid cluttering the other thread

Do you have to be logged in first? I just "lightning clicked" on an item but wasn't logged in (stupidly). I spent 2 seconds in the queue and then got taken to my login page; logged in, but nothing in my basket. I wonder if I lost out as a result of having to log in at that point ...

So maybe "Log In First" needs adding to the sticky? Or was I just unlucky?

Seems unlucky but I'll add it, I always seem to have to login after Ive added a deal and it always saves but I'll add it as a precaution :)

As reported on the other thread you don't have until midnight to pay for some of the items - some people lost out on their bargains by waiting until last minute. Be aware of this!

I waited in a queue for nearly a minute before getting the chocs today so your assumption of 5 secs is incorrect.
  • I waited in a queue for the whole hour for a wii and it didn't update from 0% claimed for the entire time.

So don't let that fool you either.
  • Check out the Black Friday gifts on Amazon.com - there seems to be something every 30 mins or so, some items are still available from hours ago - whether it's because the discounts aren't as great, vast stock quantities or the fact that some items are just friends dvd boxsets I don't know but as I have friends and family stateside it's a far more enjoyable experience.
  • is it worth locking the massive other thread and using this as the default one for black friday from now on? The other one has got far too many "how do i buy things" posts and this should stop the endless loop people are going through over there in answering them.

As for amazon.com, they wont dispatch a lot of stuff to us here
  • Post corrected, I feel 5 seconds was a fair assumption as I have secured almost all the deals I have wanted none taking more so than 5 seconds to go through but I have took into account other peoples internet speeds and changed it to 10 seconds as I think as a majority it will be within 10 seconds if you've got it, I think the minority will be waiting longer than that, but I have updated to reflect notified changes :)

  • Do you have to click on the item (when the price is revealed) and the click on the basket - or will the basket / add me (whatever icon) just appear in the first screen?

I thought Id made it fairly clear that you have to stay on the first screen and just click the add to basket, sorry for the confusion :p
