I've been trawling around the site for ages trying to find out if First Direct do SBTs. Their T&Cs say "balance transfer is a transfer of funds from your account with us directly to another specified account held by you with another card company". There's no mention of "paying off" overdrafts or interest free credit card cheques during 0% period. I'm pretty sure this means that only straightforward balance transfers are allowed but thought I'd ask if anyone could tell me otherwise?
Thanks.....
Thanks.....

Baby,
I don't think that they do. If I was you, I would grab yourself an egg card. You can then BT to Egg, you then SBT from Egg to your current account. Of course, it takes a few extra days but i've found the Egg card extremely useful for SBT'ing balances from all sorts of different cards by using the Egg Card in this way.

MLC.
Thanks MLC - my egg card's maxed out with SBT in savings accountMy Mint card's 0% runs out in October and I'm having problems getting another 0% card to transfer the balance to. My boyfriend's just been accepted for First Direct and we were going to use that to pay off my Mint card - but he can't pay off my card directly with his.
PinkLipstickBabe-thanks for your quick reply. That's why I love this site so much!!0 -
"but he can't pay off my card directly with his"
Why not?0 -
"but he can't pay off my card directly with his"
Why not?
Because the T&Cs say "balance transfer is a transfer of funds from your account with us directly to another specified account held by you with another card company"
Maybe there's a really simple way to do this that I'm just missing??0 -
I would get myself added as a second card holder on the account and just go for it. I don't think they can check (other than via credit files which seems unlikely) but if they do it is a simple misunderstanding isn't it.0

I'll give it a try - thanks Galstonian0

Another option might be to 'withdraw' cash from your Mint card and then BT Mint->FD.
You'll pay a small fee and may pay interest to Mint for a couple of days wgile the debts with them, but you should still work out better off. I think most cards let you can withdraw £500 per day from a bank (don't need your PIN either, take your card to the desk). If you can get to a bank most days, you can build up a few £K quickly.
I used to do it this way with my Egg card before you could do SBTs online.0
