Shrinking a jumper?

Hi, today I bought a jumper and as I was in a hurry I didn't try it on.
It looked ok on the hanger as it must of been quite wide, but now I've checked the inside label it's an XXXL instead of a large (I'm a small anyway but I like baggy jumpers). Anyway I've tried it on and it goes down to my knees! And whilst it makes me laugh a lot, I would prefer something more fitting so I can go out without being arrested. What's the best way of shrinking it. It's made of 85% cotton and 15% cashmere if that helps. And on the label it says wash cold with little soap and stretch out to dry naturally. Is it best just to wash warm and tumble dry till it goes down to size?

Send it to my wife she has had a lot of practice on my stuff.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.
  • Would it not be easier to take it back and exchange it! ;)

If not then i haven't got a clue and my only other suggestion is to eat some levely cakes then it meght fit you better. :D

    Lol @ Ariba

I found out by accident and to the horror of my ex (wonder why) bf that if you wash and put in the tumble dryer on high a man sized jumper will fit a 7yo in about an hour!

  • I hope you'll succeed in shrinking your jumper - I only ever shrink stuff I don't want to shrink :rotfl:

It's going to be difficult to shrink it evenly as the cashmere will probably skrink more than the cotton. A hot wash would shrink the cashmere but the cotton might even stretch.

I think you should exchange it. Cotton stands a lot of abuse in the wash. You can boil wash it. The reason it says cool wash is because the cashmere is delicate. That will shrink in a hot wash but I doubt it will affect the overall size of the jumper much since it is mainly cotton. It will probably just cause felting and ruin the nice fluffiness of the jumper.
