My DS is 3 :) Only the one atm but would love another. Have already decided when we do I am going to work evenings somewhere (supermarket prob) so we don't have to pay nursery. We get no help towards the cost for my DS and pay £526 a month - so even with the lower wages we will be better off and I get to spend more time with the kids (doing school run etc). Can't do it yet as want to stay where I am to get maternity pay as I feel I would have to find another job and be in it over a year before even trying, took a year to get pregnant last time and don't really (in an ideal world) want DS to be 6 or 7 before we have another.

My DD is 3 too. I would love to be a SAHM but we can't really afford it. I'm pretty sure you don't have to be in a job for a year to qualify for mat leave. I'm sure it's much less. Although I know what you mean. I wanted to change jobs end of last year but decided against it as we were planning on getting pregnant this year and I wanted the mat pay. Now I know I can't go anywhere til after my mat leave. Which in a way is good cos I can plan my money as I know what I'm entitled to. It's difficult with a new company.

You do pay an awful lot for childcare. We pay £60 a week for DD. And that will go down next year when she starts going to school. That money will be handy then for paying childcare for the next one who will need it then

Not sure. It's the nursery that used to be attached to the welsh primary school when I went there but they are now private. We pay £12 a day (plus 50p a week for fruit ;)) . When DD was at a childminder before she was old enough to go to the nursery we used to pay £21 a day so we are lucky i guess.
