It's a bit of a letdown today. No items on the half hour as they were yesterday.

Maybe they will add them on throughout the day but it's a slow start.

This seems very reminiscent of Boffer's sell offs. Are the deals really worth spending all day at your computer for? (serious question)

Can you put a 'deal' in your basket and wait for the countdown to get the special price?

No to the first question

You can't just put an item in your basket before the promotion starts if you want it at the promotional price - it will just show up as full price in your basket.
