Unable to work shifts due to transport issues

I'm wondering if anyone can help me out.

I've recently had to sell my car as I am unable to afford the upkeep and general costs of running it. Due to this I can no longer work the shifts that I am on within work.
I sometimes have to work until midnight on any day of the week, I live 11 miles away and public transport usually stops around 23:45pm.
I have worked for the company for 11 years now and during the past 5 years we have had no pay increase in any way. Due to this and the general cost of maintaining a car going up I had to make the decision to sell.
I have asked my employers if I can leave 30 minutes early on these days and work the extra time during my lunch or before my shift but have been told this cannot happen.

Is there anyway I can get round their decision?

I wouldnt of thought so no.

You know what the shifts are and have been working them for quite some time. If they start to let one employee dictate what hours they want to work before you know it they will have employees strolling in and out when it suits them rather than the company.

A couple of options would either be a pushbike (22 miles would take approx 45 minutes) or a little 50cc scooter.
  • I've got my road bike and the distance isn't a problem as I'm a regular cyclist anyway, it's more the hassle of riding in the early hours of the morning and in harsh winter conditions also the fact the the only route takes me down country lanes which a preety tense during the day alone.

Unfortunately beggars cant be choosers so get some cold/wet weather gear and tough it out.
  • what about buying a small moped, cheap to run etc. I know it could cause you problems during the winter and icy roads but these will be far and few between.

22 miles in 45 minutes? Did you get the gold at the olympics or were you just pipped to the post?

Employees have a right to flexibility in their working hours, for them to just say no seems unreasonable.

A cheap scooter is probably the best option.

i doubt this very much, 22miles in 45 mins works out at just under 30mph, maybe on a track but not on a road for 45 mins non stop:rotfl:
