Financial employment and CCJ

Hi all

Some advice needed, I have a Job interview coming up for HSBC, now i also have a CCJ on file from 2005, which is SATISFIED and was also obtained through no fault of my own, long story short.. my car insurance company failed to pay out to a third party after a claim, the third party eventually put a CCJ on my name, finally after a year of phone calls my insurance company satisfied the CCJ)

Any way i understand that by law banks cannot employ people with CCJ's.. now is this the case even if has been satisfied which is the case for me? would explaining that the CCJ wasnt my fault help at all or is it a simple case of if you have a CCJ then no job by law?

My credit rating aside from this is very good, i have never defaulted or missed payments on anything.

Thanks in advance for the help

I have worked in Financial Services before and CCJs were a no deal. However I am unaware of a law which prevents them employing people with them, could you provide a cite?

It would be wise to mention this at interview and explain the reasons for it. They may turn you away immediately. At best however they would want solid evidence to back up your claim (letters from the Ins. Co.) apologising/explaining their error.

Im not sure if there is a law.. i just read somewhere they were not allowed to employ anyone with a ccj, wanted to see if the same applied if it is satisfied..

i will have to mention it to them at the interview... fingers crossed, really want this job.. i hope that they will see my credit rating is really good apart from this, i had no probs with my bank account / getting credit and paying it off and have no outstanding debts at the moment, i hope this will help the situation

Also have a really high credit score 880

What was the exact date the CCJ was issued? To my knowledge a CCJ/Defaults etc drop off your credit file after six years as long as they have been paid off or satisfied. If in fact the six years has passed since the CCJ was issued then ask to get your credit file updated.

    When is your interview?

If six years has not passed you can explain this too them and say an really old CCJ is just about to come off your file after the new year, then I suggest honesty is the policy talk about it at the interview and explain the situation.

    Good luck with your interview.

  • Thanks..
It was set in 2005 so is still on file as i did a credit check on myself..

I have just read somewhere that HSBC's run a check to see if you qualify for a standard current account with them and if this is passed then they will employ you..

I hope this is correct as i have a high credit score and have never had an issue getting a loan etc so may pass this check

anyhow i will still just be honest with them, I also am government security cleared so hope this will work in my favour aswell.

    Thanks
  • At the end of the day if you are good enough for the job and the right person they will employ you the credit check is just screening.

  • Update guys...

Contacted Experian (credit reference agency) and the have said that they will remove the ccj from my report if I can get a letter from my insurance company admitting liability.
My insurance co have said yes they will do this for me so that's great news.

Didn't realise Experian could do this but apparently, insurance claims being delayed, leading to CCJ's is quite common, so they have provision for this.

Hopefully the other 2 credit agencies , Equifax and Call credit, will do something similar for and then happy days...
