Tax Demand

Can someone help PLEASE. Just received Tax Demand for £370 for my brother. He took a Stroke in April 2009, worked over 30 yrs for EHSSB. Was left with severe memory problems. Received 6 months full pay and 6 months half pay. Then received Contributory and Income Related ESA High Rate £95.15 and no other benefit. As his SSP ran out after the first 6 months then went on low ESA until he was finally awarded high rate. Surely this was the responsibility of the ESA Dept to deduct any tax if any that was due not for him to be hit with a bill from the Tax Man. He started back to work in late Sept 2010 on a phased return. Can anyone please advise me what to do. Thanks

Phone the tax office. They are friendlier than you think and will be able to explain this better. Also their computer system is automated and quite regularly wrong.
I know this from first hand experience and worried for quite a while about my tax queries but they are there to help.
(tax doesn't have to be taxing)
don't worry, get some sleep and give them a ring in the morning and explain the circumstances0 -
Get him to talk to his salary department too in the EHSSB, they can help contact the tax people and explain the situation as well. Hope all goes well for him.I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:0
