Healthy Snacking

Please be aware that even Naked bars are quite high in sugar and are also quite small- you may find they are not as filling or that you begin to crave more then one...
True, but it is all from dried fruit, so for when the OP wants a sweet snack it could offer an alternative to chocolate or jelly sweets.A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0 -
I find that frozen (but defrosted) raspberries mixed with non fat fromage frais (I also add sweetener, but you don't have to) is lovely. I also crush two mini meringue nests over the top to make a sort of low fat eton mess.
Also fresh pineapple is good as its really sweet.
Or will often make a couple of boiled eggs and have on some ryvita (with extra low fat mayo). If you mix your eggs, mayo and a chopped up gherkin its tasty and fills you up.0 -
I had one of those graze boxes - Did anyone else find it hard to order specific things? I dont eat nuts and i got 2 packs despite saying I didnt want them...0

Yes it is a good idea, (sorry don't want to offent you here by constantly correcting stuff but feel it is important!)
Dried fruit bars (and even cereal bars) tend to be a difficult option- good if you are able to exercise self control but hard to keep to one bar and also you have the added issue that you will never really eat less then one bar. With a handful of dried fruit its easier to take less in the first place-or less then would be in a bar, but still even then hard to not go back for more!
Dried fruit having a high glycemic load (G.L rather then G.I). Dried fruit is a better option nutrient wise instead of milk chocolate but in terms of calories and trying to lose weight, not so helpful- its hard to keep to a small amount and its also hard to not eat too much especially if your hungry!
Unfortunately sugar is sugar doesn't matter where it comes from (fruit, honey, white powder, syrups...etc) the body will still see it as sugar it will still whack the blood sugar up high and it can as a result make it harder to eat a lower calorie diet. The more you have in one go, the higher the blood sugar goes (again doesn't matter what type) some foods have less sugar in then others but sadly dried fruit is quite high in sugar and eaten in isolation is not so far off a bag of sweets
(sad as I like dried fruit too!) Best thing? if you do like dried fruit, have it with something else that has protein in, nuts would be an ideal option or have them following a meal or snack which has had protein in (meat, fish, soya/tofu dairy are forms of protein). This will help the body to deal with the blood sugar high in a less manic way and so not crave to eat more dried fruit/sugar on its way back down again.
I guess it depends on the OPs personal tastes, but just from experience I'd say treat dried fruit with caution! Fresh fruit doesn't have the same effect as you eat far less of it in terms of sugar (e.g 1 prune = 1 plum, you could conceivably eat 10 prunes but would you really eat 10 plums in one go?)0 -

Oooh yes- this is a really good idea, I used to do this!
You can buy packs of frozen fruit salad in supermarkets- not really sure what its for...(maybe making ice cream??) it is really nice to chomp on in the summer months when its hot! Mixed with fromage Frais sounds like a nice addition!0 -
Options hot chocloate, i sometimes have apple with melted chocolate but you can alter the amount you have, celery with low fat philidelphia, always have cut up veg in the fridge which will then help you snacking on'junk' food ;-) hope this helps :-)0
