  • Do you mean the road tax, or the tax deducted from your wages for having a company car.? Either way surely its not your fault but your employers.

oh dear Willsnarf - thats what got me into trouble. 3 years ago my tax was underpaid by my employer and when I called the tax office they asked me if I still had a co car as it was not declared at all 2 years ago  so last year I was hammered for tax because I had to pay for the car tax as usual and had 1 year not paid and 1 year underpaid on top  the tax office just blamed me because I should know about tax but I had trusted my employers to get it right. As of April this year I went back onto a normal tax code then 2 weeks ago I got a letter regardng my national insurance and they said that I had not made any contributions 2 years ago and they havent looked at last year yet. I phoned up the NI office and they said that there is a computer problem so I have to wait 3 months for them to catch up and if my payments are still not showing I have to send my P60 form.
Hope you manage to get yours all sorted - all the best :)

tax for having a company car. Well you'd think but my dad is using his accountants to make sure that everything is upto date but apparently for this last tax year i'm £700 short and they are pretty sure its my car allowance...so they have asked for my p60! plus then there is another 5 odd months this year so far!

    Hi

absolutely no help to the op s position but just to confirm that declaring company car tax is entirely up to the employee not the employer...on a positive note...talk to the tax man as he wont beat ya up but will agree repaymnt plan

    cheers

Depending upon how much tax is due, you might be able to get it collected through your tax code next year.
Have you queried what is actually in your code at the moment, if there isn't enough for the car, you will be racking up more underpayments.

oops a daisy i got the same letter in from the tax man about not paying enough national insurance contributions i have to wait 3 months also ...wonder why this is
  • Hi elantan ( sorry to hijack your thread Willsnarf :) )
Something to do with their computer system and a massive backlog  I think a lot of people are affected by it aswell. Make sure you keep your P60's just in case.
