Planning on doing a top up shop of bread/milk/frozen stuff/tins to get us through to payday but was wondering which was the cheapest supermarket to go to? We normally go to tesco but were considering iceland for the frozen stuff... What do you think?

If you dont care about brand name I would give Lidl or Aldi a try. I think that they both have half price veg at the momentSorting my life out one day at a time0

Personally, I don't like Iceland. I find their food bland and tasteless.
My preference would be Asda or Tesco but that is cos I dont have an Aldi or Lidl close by.
Any markets nearby?Ever wonder about those people who spend £2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backward.0 -
If you haven't been before then I would suggest Aldi. Most people are pleasantly surprised by it. Remember to take your own bags though!0

Morrisons for me because they seem to have the best special offers. Occasionally popping to Asda for their super special offers (a bit like the coke one recently). The early bird gets the worm but the second mouse gets the cheese :cool:0

I can get most of my stuff from Netto and it works out about £8-10 per fortnight cheaper than most other supermarkets. I have to get a couple of things from Lidl (especially when they have their half price fruit and veg offer on!), but Netto is the winner for me.0

Hi immoral_angeluk,
Martin's article, What's Hot and What's Not at Aldi, Lidl, Netto should help you see what's worth buying from these supermarkets.
In the meantime I'll move your thread over to the Shop but Don't Drop board, where you should get more help.

Well I for one currently buy fruit and veg half price at Lidl,
also eggs 57p for 10
Cartons of milk 1litre 35p
Bread goto Asda for late at night - 10ish - and see if they have any reduced, currently got about 4 loaves inda freezer all reduced to 20p from about 98p(uncut ones are the best
) If you dont ask you dont get!!0 -

The half price fruit and veg is regional because ours had half price a few weeks ago and it is not on at the momnet.
Lidl's in our region also sell milk in 2 pints (including organic) and 4 pints and are at a higher equivalent price than your 35p for 1 litre so you get a better deal.0 -
It's certainly not Tesco anyway. Anytime I wander in looking for an individual, I find its signifcantly more expensive than other shops.
Amazing how yoy brainwash people if you throw it at them from enough angles. (Ref. George Bush / Tony Blair)

Not a fan of iceland - it's ok if you're a brand snob, but better deals are to be had in lidl or asda.0
