Looking for some advice...

Hi guys,

I was going to post this in the Rant sections but thought I might get a better response here.

I ordered a custom made wedding dress and matching bolero jacket from a website back in August, I paid extra (£25) to have it done as a rush order within 4-6 weeks so I had it in plenty of time for the day which is the 27th of November. A week tomorrow eek! :j

My dress arrived at the start of October and everything was fine but there was no jacket, I emailed the seller and she advised me that unfortunately the seamstress had not picked up the jacket order but they would get onto it and I'd have it within 30 days. Ok so it gave me a little wobble I was happy with the standard of the dress and figured it was just a mistake.

After chasing up the jacket at the start of this week I was advised it was in the finishing stage it would be here next week. It arrived at my parents house this evening and disaster... the embellishments on the jacket were a different colour to that on the dress.

My dress is champagne with burgundy embellishments, the jacket is champagne with bright red embellishments. Unfortunately the difference is blindingly obvious and I can't wear the jacket.

So I'm contacting the seller tomorrow, I definitely want a full refund for the jacket and am happy to return it to them. I now have a week, and I'm sure all you fellow bride & grooms know probably the most chaotic week leading up to the wedding to find an alternative.

Am I cheeky asking for some form of goodwill gesture? I don't know what; but I feel I been put in a very difficult position by their mistake. I also don't want to come across as a total bridezilla so have decided to compose myself before emailing them.

  • ok congrats on your upoming wedding- not long now!
completly see where you are coming from- if it is really obvious then you must let the seler know and get a full refund- and yes you deserve something as compensation- firsty could they just replace the embellishments to match the dress?- if they can then they cn do this quickly and send it to you special delievery.
secondly- do you really need the jacket?- i get that its november and will be cold- but is it a huge part of the day?

you must explain to them in the email that you ordered a long time ago in plenty of time- and they made two huge mistakes (not doing it and then doing it wrong) explain the emotional stress that it has put u under and that you are now without a jacket for the biggest day of your life

also you must get the full amount back- so the extra £25 you paid to do it as a rush order.

let us know how you get on

  • Thank you for the advice, I had the seamstress (local nothing to do with company I bought it from) who is altering my mothers outfit to take a look and she said as the embellishments are glued rather than sewn on it would have to be a complete new jacket. I will definitely ask them if it's possible to make a new one but I would be wary pinning my hopes on them now.

The jacket is not vital to the day, I am in the north of Scotland so rather chilly at the moment and we have some special outdoor shots planned with our photographer. I'm hoping to maybe find a burgundy shawl from a local cashmere business as an alternative. I don't really like my upper arms (bit saggy), vain I know, but I would rather have them covered during the ceremony and photos.

I will definitely push for the rush order cost back, this seems like a reasonable request and would go towards balancing the cost of an alternative.

  • Ahh I can sympathise zebra .........

I've got a complex about my upper arms too I fully plan on getting a jacket and if it didnt turn up how I wanted or completely wrong i'd be mortified :( I know OH wouldn't care he loves me just the way I am but i'd look back at my pics and be drawn to my arms I know it !

I really hope you find some resolution to this and I hope you're day goes really well :)

    xx

  • Thanks for all the help guys, I'm awaiting a response to my email from the seller. No answer on the phone so I'm assuming they don't operate during the weekend probably isn't a busy time for them this late in the year.

@Poppyscorner - my OH said he didn't care if I turned up in a binbag he'd still love me lol!

@Bubbles0169 & Hayleythedaisy - thank you so much! I'm going to contact 'wraporshrug' tomorrow and see what they can do if I don't have any success at a local place I'm going to try in the morning.

I'll update when I have a response from the seller of my original jacket :)

  • Well everything worked out eventually, I managed to get a red cashmere wrap from a local shop. It doesn't match the burgundy on the dress but I figure it wouldn't matter as it'll look more like an accessory than part of the outfit :)

Eventually got an answer from the seller last night, apparently as they dye the embellishments to order two items are never the same unless of course they are done at the same time. This annoyed me as surely she would have known that they would never have matched as the jacket was done with a different batch of dye!

So I've settled on returning my jacket to the seller and getting a full refund for my mother who paid for it. No goodwill was forthcoming even though I asked however the seller was very apologetic and I'm willing to accept the refund given she has acknowledged they made a mistake. Plus I just want to get on with things now and not have anymore hiccups.

Thanks for all the advice, so long as the snow holds off long enough (it turned up today for half an hour much to my annoyance :D) I think it'll be fine.... That's my motto "it'll be fine!!" :rotfl:
