Hi my parents bought a caravan approx a yr ago in a private sale. They have tried to sell the caravan recently and found it has outstanding finance with black horse . They've spoken to black horse today who obviously cant do anythin as my parents aren't the account holders. I know they should have run a hpi test themselves but its too late for the "should haves". Does anyone know what they should do? The person they bought it off is no longer contactable on the number they had.

How much was the outstanding finance for?

I dont know black horse wont say. They did say the finance was being paid but wont say how long is left to run on it

Pray is all I can say - do you have an address for the seller?
The only other advice I can suggest is CAB.

What you need to get your parents to do is speak to Black Horse and hopefully someone that knows what they're talking about. Ask your parents to explain the situation e.g. where they bought it from and how much. Black Horse should then send out a questionnaire known as Hirer Conversion for which will assess whether the purchase of the vehicle was in good faith. If this is a relative or friend that sold it to them they have no chance.
